BUT she poops at will...anywhere! I have conflicting information....feed then take outside....feed then put in crate for 30 minutes....feed then put in pen with toys and pad off to side......well no matter what I do....she does what she wants....then poops where she wants. Any suggestions??? | I had a really good couple of days and then yesterday my timing got off, I was in a hurry and didn't wait long enough for him to go and while I was soaped up and wet in the shower my daughter told me he'd left a wet present by my bed  Again last night, I found a wet present in our room and he left a pee and poo by the front door so obviously, I wasn't doing something well yesterday. I don't scold him, don't say anything but clean up the messes, then take poo and put it in the yard where I want him to go and let him smell it in the yard so he associates the poo with the yard. This morning I'm going to wash the floors(we have wall to wall tile)with bleach & water to kill any remains. Have to clean them really well so no odor is left. Dogs like to go in the same place.
When he does his business I applaud and pet him congratulating him for a good job. That's all there is to it. Yorky's are known for being a little more difficult at potty training. It's very important that WE not get excited, even though we want make a big disgust over it because a dog interprets that as praise. It's better to clean up the mess with no odor left, and congratulate them when they do what we want. Pooky's funny, I want him to go on the grass rather than the flagstone. I've caught him just about to go on the flagstone and made a noise and he scooted on the grass to do his business. These are very smart dogs. Wipe the slate clean for you little one, clean the house the best you can from any remains and be more patient with her when you know she needs to go. Pooky goes both first thing in the morning normally but he had a big one before bed last night after not have a 2nd bm during the day, so I suppose that's another reason why we got off.
I've read that within 15 min after eating they need to relieve themselves. The other way to help them is get them to walk. Keep her moving around and it'll come. I'm not using a crate. Maybe someone else will have more ideas. |
