| Micro Chip annual fees We have two Yorkies that we had micro chipped when we got them. They have a secure yard that they have never escaped from. HomeAgain the micro-chip company is billing us for $36 yearly fee. From what I can see they offer nothing except if dog is picked up by animal control to provide contact information. We have the microchip numbers recorded as well as animal control has them locally. Seems like this is just an excess charge. Am I missing something with this program? |

| Tibbe has Home Again and, besides the initial fee for chipping/registration, the second and maybe the third year, I paid the fee for the extra injury/illness insurance, if lost and whatever other perks the yearly re-up fee included but then stopped buying it. But Tibbe is still protected with his chip and they would still contact me if he were lost & scanned & Home Again notified. Unless they have changed drastically, if your pet is duly chipped and registered with them and the online information is good, with a current description of the dog, a picture, vet clinic listed and contact info current, even if you don't keep paying the fee for the lost pet injury/illness insurance, they will contact you if your lost dog is scanned and found for the life of the dog or until you sell him or whatever the particulars of the dog no longer a member of your household per the contract. I think Home Again's yearly fee letter is very misleading, as their website info about it used to be. Haven't read that info lately but it used to make you think you had to pay each year to have them contact you. Anyway, it's an extra little chance I have of getting Tibbe back to me should he ever be lost or stolen.

| I think most companies offer a lifetime fee as well as the yearly... info on it may be harder to find... last time I checked it was $40.00.

| I just micro chipped our new little girl. The vet sent in my information along with my $17.99. I thought we had to renew yearly (they actually told me I did). I am wondering if we should just go with PetLink next year and have it forever without yearly renewals. According to their website they accept HomeAgain microchips. Has anyone switched companies after the first year? I hate paying for something yearly that I don't really need. |

| I've been with Home Again since 2008 and just check the online info occasionally to be sure it is all still there, especially after Hurricane Sandy. I had to redo some of Tibbe's info. But I just paid the fee for the extra stuff for a year or two after the first year but all his info and the contact info are with Home Again to use should he get lost and scanned.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | for registering microchips with Petlink, If your microchip registration is not prepaid, registration is only $19.99, but that is valid for the lifetime of your pet. There are no renewal fees or additional costs! and they accept home again, my first 2 dogs are home again chips, the rest are datamars..my son's rescue was with home again registry and I switch her to petlink after the first year.. hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 02-10-2013 at 11:43 AM. |

| Home Again is a one-time fee also. The yearly fee is for their insurance, etc.

| Also just read about AKC CAR and that looks like a deal as well. I have to get our second baby (Carmen, we got a yorkie and a Biewer when we couldn't decide between them!) micro chipped in a few weeks. I am going to ask the vet why they automatically give you the form and sign you up with HomeAgain without giving you options or the correct information. They told me I would have to renew next year.....wrong!!!! I will renew my first Yorkie with AKC CAR because I paid to have her registered with HomeAgain and am good for a year, but I am going to try and get all the info from the vet and register the second little guy with AKC CAR. Just called my daughter and told her not to give HomeAgain another penny. She has been paying them for three years. Who knew????? |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I have use Avid microchips for years. There is a one time fee to register them and it is good forever unless you give or sell the dog and you need to transfer ownership information on the chip. |
