| You should never leave him outside regardless if its cold or warm. He could have easily been taken. I hope that next time you just leave him at home. There are many times I want to bring my girls with me. However, I must do what is in the best interest of them.

| Yes IMO you were wrong............ yorkies cannot be left in the elements of cold or heat for health reasons, but as others have mentioned even though you were watching from inside anyone could have (and did) come by and take him or a larger animal or animal with disease could harm/kill him before you could ever save him. I love my Charlie but I dont take him anywhere that he cant go in with me I dont even let him out to potty without my staying there until he is done and I bring him back in, and I have on several occasions called the police on those who leave their animals in the car in harsh weather conditions. It wont hurt your pet to stay at home when you go out and it could very well save his life.

YT 2000 Club Member | Bless you for caring for Joy Boy. Now here's a question-would you sit outside in that cold weather? Neither would your dog. They love to be by you and warm. You are fortunate he wasn't stolen. So many pets are stolen when you take your eye off of them or leave them in the car. Please be very careful with your precious Yorkie. Treat him like a child. You would never leave a little child outside so he should never be left out. Stick him in a stroller by you or in your coat but not out in the cold. |

| My dog and I survived an attempted theft and I cannot describe the anguish I went through thinking about what might have happened to her life if it had been successful. There is no way i can tell you how fast the situation came down. There was very little reaction time. Additionally, you baby has health problems - someone could have come by and fed her something or dropped something in the bed that would have been very bad or dangerous. We have also experienced predator (hawk) attack that was again very quick and frightening. These little ones have to be protected as they are vulnerable in so many ways. I think you care because of all the great things that you have done for this dog. Keep it up - you will enjoy the Yorkie love coming your way!

| Thank you all for your comments and advice. Obviously, I did not do the right thing regarding Joy Boy and the cold weather. Also, I never thought of theft or someone giving him a dangerous food item. There are so many dogs tied up by this restaurant (really a coffee house) every day that I never considered anyone would try to cause him harm. Additionally, even though I have a small patio, which he will sometimes use when a walk is not an option, I do not plan to let him out by himself any more due to posts regarding raccoons, hawks, owls, etc. I live in an urban area but lots of wild animals and birds are periodically around here too. Again, thank you for your thoughts on this matter. I truly appreciated it. I look forward to being an active member of the group so I can continue learning and one day be able to share the expertise I gain from all of you. |

| I am so happy you "get it"...I guess we all have to remember that every part of this country is different, different strokes for different folks...as they say! In your area it is acceptable to tie a dog outside a restaurant...it is not here...so I understand why you assumed it was ok (a little)....I'm glad we were all able to help...I am especially glad that you came back and are staying! Welcome to YT!

| Would love to see pics of Joy Boy! I am so happy that you took in all the info and are going to become a part of the YT community. There are some very wonderful people here who absolutely adore (nay, live for) these Yorkies..and all animals actually. Your history with animals probably will give you plenty of opportunities to teach us about some things, too.
