| Jealous or just to smart for his own good? Ok either I have the most stubborn hard headed pup on the planet or I am a terrible fur mommy. Duncan has been sleeping all night every night until about 2 weeks ago. Suddenly he thinks 4:30 in the morning is time to get up. I have tried to take him out thinking he needs to pee then bring him back in and put him back in his house. he whines, and growls, and barks. I have tried to ignore him letting him know I am the one in charge here but he will not give in. Now let me say this, we have 2 other dogs that sleep in the bed with us. Cassidy who typically sleeps under the covers at the foot of the bed and Baxter who sleeps either on top of or under the covers between hubby and myself. The past few nights/mornings I have gotten Duncan out of his house and put him in bed with us but am afraid to go back to sleep for fear he will pee on the bed or get into something he shouldn't. This morning however he did go to sleep laying with Baxter between the hubby and I. What do you think defiant pup or jealous and wants to be with the rest of the family. I'm really getting frustrated with this and loosing sleep is not a good thing. |

| Maybe he's jealous & wants to snuggle in bed too! If he doesn't go potty in his house at night, I doub't he'd go on the bed.

YT 1000 Club Member | Sounds very normal to me as well. Yorkies were bread to be independent hunters/Varminteers, where when they were task to do a job, that no human intervention was necessary. Thusly comes stubbornness. These issues of possessiveness are Pack related, and I would be surprised if my animals didn't want to be together, actually the nearer the better for them. Conflict usually occurs, when there isn't clear identifications made by the Pack Leader (you) as to a Pecking Order within the Pack. Few understand that there can be a Dog Alpha, and it's Human Leader. I maintain a very strict pecking order in my Pack, meeting, feeding and petting My Male Sneakers first, then the Female Becca, then the Puppy. This is a natural way for our animals to be. It pleases me very much, when I delve out treats, to see my Female and Puppy to patiently wait for My Male to be fed first. Hang on, don't presume chauvinism, it just so happened that My Male Sneakers has tenure, and generally Males will tend to be Alpha. Yorkie Packs are much like Lion Packs, with the Females doing the work, while the males laze around. IF there is no male Alpha, a Female Yorkie can run a Pack REAL good, and will if an existing Male isn't strong. In many instances, it's up to the Pack Leader (human), to support "whoever" is the pack Alpha.

| Something outside had or has his attention. Dogs are inly manipulative in the same sense young children are...how do I get what I want, no intent ir concept of right or wrong, just the goal.

| Don't ask me... My 9 week old still is playing the limping crying game when she sees me after I accidentally stepped on her paw last night but as long as she does not see me she is running and jumping around like nothing ever happen

| If he knows the other dogs are in bed with you then that is the problem. He does not want to be alone. He wants either you or the other dogs. There isn't much you can do about that except make sure he is warm enough and ignore him (I couldn't) or take him out to go potty and let him sleep with you. (That's what I would do) They are smart little dogs. I bet he know exactly where everyone is in the morning. |

| day after Well I decided to give it a shot. I put Duncan in bed in his own bed when I was ready for sleep. At about 3:30 he decided it was time to make a trip outside. When we came back in he REFUSED to go to his house. He dug his feet in and would not go in. So I decided to give it a shot. I put him in bed with hubby and the other 2 and myself. Ahhhhhhh sleep until Hubby got up to get ready for work. I won't put him in initially because the other 2 need their time with mom and dad but I guess he can come in after he has been out at 3 or 4. I have tried to create an alpha order, my being alpha female. But in our home we have a yorkie-poo who is 5 yrs old very smart but sometimes makes me wonder if he weren't dropped on his head. He tends to be more timid than the pup. We also have a female Bull-Jack she is 4 and does tend to motherly towards the pup. Then there is Duncan the 8 month old who has taken over the house. He definatly has attempted to assert himself as pack leader and I really need to get a handle on that. I have started with feeding I feed them all together but I put food down for the oldest first than the female next in line and Duncan last, They all have to sit before food is set down. I'm not really sure where to go from here. When he is in his house and is whining as long as I know he has been out and is ok I try to leave him go and let him know he isn't boss and won't get everything he wants all the time. We have had several dogs over the years but I have never had one that got ahold of my heart like this guy. |

LOL My DH had a Rott(en)/Pit many years ago that got under the house he was renting (I met DH just before he got that puppy) and the owners had put pesticides under it and the puppy was poisoned, rushed to the vet and antidotes given, etc., to stop puppy from marathon vomiting. Puppy continued to 'dry heave' and DH took him back to the vet, who told him to "just tell him to quit that" because he is FAKING it to get your attention!!! So, for several more months, puppy would dry heave, DH would say "stop that" and puppy would quit and go play. Nothing wrong with puppy at all by that time.
