| It's not uncommon for them to need some teeth pulled. Make sure you ask how much extra extractions will be. Some vets don't charge extra if it's only one tooth. Mine doesn't. As for bloodwork, yes if it comes back normal that means liver can handle the anesthetic and you don't have to worry.

| Sorry I did not realize you had questions for me.... The anesthetics our vets used on our older dogs were: induction with propofol and maintainance with isoflourane. Anesthesia was monitored the entire time and they had an IV placed with fluids through the procedure. My one dog has many medical problems and when she was 10 I took her to a specialist veterinary hospital for the dental and paid extra for an anesthesia consult and that was what they recommended for her. She also has kidney disease and this year I was a little more worried but she was fine. She recovers faster than my 1 year old dog and was running around that evening. She came home on pain meds for a few days and had dissolvable stitches in her mouth from her extractions. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions

| They ate the same evening. I gave them soft food and a small meal the night after surgery. They had early morning procedures so it was ok to give the food that night. If she has a lot of extractions she may not eat that day or if she is spayed. One of my younger males had 7 extractions and was able to eat same night.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Twinkie We dropped Twinkie off at 7 AM this morning. We told the vet to just do whatever he needs to do with his mouth (usually they call and see if you want something done that isn't scheduled before they do it). We are to call at noon to see how he is doing. Will let you know what's going on when I find something out. I think I worry more about an old dog going under an anesthetic than a puppy. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers everyone. Louise |

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Twinkie did very well today. They pulled two loose teeth is all and his breath, that we thought was "poop breath" (yes, Twinkie eats poop) no longer stinks. We picked him up at 4 and on the way home we stopped and got him French Fries which he ate. My vet said we could feed him anything, that dogs don't feel the pain like people do after getting teeth pulled. Obviously, he was right because after the French fries, Twinkie ate his usual dinner. Shocked the heck out of us! We just have to finish up the antibiotic is all. In February, my Terrier/X Gizmo will get her teeth done. I won't wait as long as we did on Twinkie. l Her teeth look pretty good but she is almost 7 so she is due. Thanks for all the prayers. Louise and Zachary |

| Did your little one have the dental/spay yet? I was kind of worried having a dental and spay with no antibiotics first with the vet saying there was no certainty of tooth infection or not. Never did know a vet who would work on a possibly infected area in the mouth w/out a course of antibiotics first.
