The anesthetics our vets used on our older dogs were:
induction with propofol and maintainance with isoflourane. Anesthesia was monitored the entire time and they had an IV placed with fluids through the procedure.
My one dog has many medical problems and when she was 10 I took her to a specialist veterinary hospital for the dental and paid extra for an anesthesia consult and that was what they recommended for her. She also has kidney disease and this year I was a little more worried but she was fine. She recovers faster than my 1 year old dog and was running around that evening. She came home on pain meds for a few days and had dissolvable stitches in her mouth from her extractions.
