Cotton Coated Yorkshire terrier?

I keep Columbo's hair anywhere from really short (summer) to maybe 2 inches long (winter). He HATES to be groomed or brushed, and has bedhead (or bed-snout as we call it) most of the time. He does clean up well, though.

Joels coat is just like Ahi's brother Czer's coat. I didn't realize the difference until the two of them were together. Ahi has straight silky hair that doesn't really tangle. Czer's hair is super soft but is curly.

Columbo comes from a show breeder and I've always wondered why she decided not to keep him. She kept his sister, who was about half his size, and I know she did show her. I always thought maybe it was his size (he's about 8 lbs) or maybe the fact that he hates to be groomed so much. But now I'm wondering if maybe it was his coat. I think it is beautiful and people are always commenting on how pretty he is, but if I let his hair grow long, it would be a rats nest. I know the breeder said something about the type of coat he has, but it didn't register with me there were different types of coats until I started reading yorkie talk so much in the last few months. And I'd still love the little fart even if he was bald, so it doesn't really matter.

This is Clyde. He isn't my cotton (soft) coated Yorkshire terrier, but he does have some pretty wild hair! Most people do not believe that he is a purebred Yorkshire terrier, but he is!

I'm going to be posting pictures of Dexter next (cotton coated Yorkshire terrier), but I thought people might like to see Clyde's hair when it is long. For some strange reason it grows out curled up.

This is Dexter! He is my cotton (soft) coated Yorkshire terrier. I was having trouble uploading pictures so these aren't very focused on his fluffy hair ... but I will say that it is VERY thick. FAR thicker than Clyde's hair has ever been.
Dexter is just a couple days under four months old.

This is Clyde. He is not a cotton (soft) coated Yorkshire terrier, but he does have some pretty crazy hair I thought some people might like to see. I always keep his hair short because it looks pretty wild when it is long. Most people do not believe he is purebred Yorkshire terrier but he is!

So far Kyra has stayed mostly black. This is her a few nights ago and she is almost a year old.

Wow, I just love Kyra's...it's dark and gorgeous! She looks more silky than cottony to me

This is my Maya and she has a cotton coat , it is very pretty but she needs to be brushed every day.

Dont you just love that cut on a cotton coat. I do the same cut on Ruby and I love it. My daughter calls her "Snorkers" because its a modified Schnozer cut.

Out of my four Ruby is our only cotton coat and is the only one who has remained black. So there may be something to that . . . idk

I've often wondered that too--the soft coats seem mostly black or blackish.

Kaji's back is finally greying a bit. Not a whole lot, but he's definitely lighter than he use to be.
