| I have one silky and what I thought was a cotton but she doesn't tangle easily. So maybe a modified not sure though.

| Tessa does not have cotton coat but her sister who is not a yorkie does. I too chose Daisy for her personality and wouldn't trade her in for a silky. One thing's for sure, it's difficult to maintain them in full coat. If you don't want to spend most of your time brushing mats, I would opt for the puppy cut. |

I've been wondering for a while what kind of coat Mandie has. When we got her and 4 1/2 months, the original owners had her groomed to a schnauzer cut so she didn't have much hair. Now that it's been growing out - it seems wavier than it does straight. It doesn't seem "thick" but I'm not sure if it's because she still has some more growing to do on that cut...? Any ideas from this pic (this is from yesterday so most recent):

| I think the cotton coats are harder to manage. I find that the longer the coat is getting, the more I'm battling with it. I find that the best product for the long hair cotton coat is the Les Pooch shampoo and conditioner. I use it with the ice on ice detangler. It still knots and snarles constantly. However, one plus of the cotton coat is that they don't get greasy or stinky as fast as a silky coat.

My Colby also has different hair from most yorkies I've seen although I don't know if this is a cotton coat. Here's some pics! Last edited by Caro; 11-09-2012 at 01:22 PM. | |

| Here's a recent pic of P-Nut - "Cotton Coat" is his middle name. We've been keeping him short even though I think he looks soooo cute with a long coat. He tangles and matts very easily if it's long... |

| Colby's hair texture and coloring is a LOT like Mandie's!

| My Zoey has silky hair but my question to all of you cotton coated mommies/daddies is, does the hair stay black forever? I have seen black yorkies with dark orangey gold faces. They are very pretty.

| I'm not sure and would like to know about this, too. P-Nut is 14 months and there's no sign of his black/tan coat changing... |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | I've read online that Yorkies with the soft or cotton coated hair often stay black .... but I've never personally seen it happen so I couldn't say for sure! I guess I will find out as Dexter gets older! |
