Were you there in the room when yours stopped breathing? I can't imagine the terror if you were! I imagine that aged you a good 5 years per child! Kids are so fragile when gravely ill.

Ellie81 is in a terrible situation and I pray that her baby gets well and Bengi can come home very soon. I was reading a story on Home Again website today about a dog gone for weeks and then being found.

OMG!!! What a nightmare for you! Horrible that a diagnosis took so long for such a sick child! I met a lady years ago who's son had Reyes Syndrome...swelling on the brain, etc. and it happened very quickly. He was so sick...they weren't sure he'd live through it but he did and miraculously suffered no long term damage. It's so dreadful what can go wrong.

My son was at home when he quit breathing the first time. An LPN in our bldg resusitate him but he was blue and stiff by then. The ambulance went to the wrong apt. first, but finally found us and I rode with him to the hospital. This happened after the det truck had detonated the fire extinguisher bomb in the dumpster in front of our building and all the officials had left, so more flashing lights on the street. The second time, he was in his car seat in the back seat of our car outside the guard house at a military post in Germany....but 2 hours prior he was playing happily fever free at a friend's house at brunch. The same MP's and medical staff came out as had 2 weeks before when he quit breathing the first time. I carried therm strips and fever reducer in my pocketbook until after he graduated college...LOL

My oldest was in OR once a year the first 4 years of his life...open heart surgery when he was 3...he was born with 2 holes in his heart. His daughter had the hold in her heart repaired when she was 4.

There is no trauma quite like a child in such distress as yours, and mine, and so many others that I saw that were so much worse than mine. I have a hard time being in hospitals any more. I am glad your child came through such a frightening and dangerous situation.

Ellie is in a dreadful situation...so far away from where her Bengi was let out. Somebody needs a serious 'spanking' for losing her baby, and more effort at finding him should have been immediately forthcoming. I hope he is found and reunited with his family. It is just so heartbreaking...so sad! I hope her child is well again quickly if not already. So much can go so quickly wrong.

It was years ago before many of today's wonderful diagnostic tools that could have at least ruled out the brain/cord diseases faster and likely w/o the spinal tap, etc.

How terrible that your boys had such terrible close calls! A very ill child is as bad as it gets for a mom, isn't it? No fear like that fear. I'm so glad they and your grandchild are okay! I totally get your carrying therm strips/fever reducer for so long!!! Mom's of children who've made it through very bad illnesses/injuries have much fear to try to get past and much to be grateful for don't we? God bless.

Update on the Melbourne yorkie:
He was actually given to the rescue because he needed a dental real bad. The shelter never mentioned anything about "having bites all over". But I do think the shelter was totally indifferent to the condition of this poor baby. Today I got a message from the rescue foster parent and she said that "He was extremely dirty and matted and had feces stuck to him when I picked him up....I had no choice but to shave him so I could give him a bath" How could they not bathe him at the shelter!
But we know he is safe now at a foster home and he is at the vet as we speak having a full checkup and a dental

I'm so beyond aggravated with that Melbourne "shelter". What a joke of a place. Ugh!
I'm also very happy to hear he is with a foster home that will care for him. He's going to feel so much better!!

By the way, how were Bengi's teeth? I keep meaning to ask that since these found yorkies seem to be described as having bad teeth sometimes..?

What the.... So let me get this straight this shelter has Sarah's wife working for them and they adopted a dog out to an couple covered in poo????? Wow I have friends on my paranormal team (don't judge I have odd interest lol) that work with rescues and shelters and those animals are loved and pampered dressed up like dolls for adoption days.

That shelter just sucks! Look they didn't even want to help reunite a pet with it's owner even if the pet wasn't the right one. They could have told Ellie and others it was a surrendered dog and saved everyone a lot of emotional pain. And the condition they tried to adopt it out in is DEPLORABLE!!!!! They sound like all they care about is making the $ for the adoption.
