| Dropped off Maxi to get neutered...what to expect?? Hello! I dropped Maxi off at the vet this morning at 7am to get neutered, microchipped, and have one canine baby tooth extracted. (his lower canine is growing inward and hitting the roof of his mouth) he's only 4.5 months but the vet really pushed to do this asap so that the baby tooth doesn't get in the way of his new teeth and this will give him a better chance of having healthy teeth as an adult. I'm at work now but I cannot FOCUS... so I thought I would ask my fellow YT's for advice on things I'll have to do or what to expect when I pick him up. Any input is appreciated

| Ohhh poor sweet Maxi!! I’m sure he will do just fine and soon he will be in your arms. That is great you are taking care of those baby teeth, they can cause some serious issues if not pulled out! It is really hard to say how a dog will be after the surgery, some dogs come home and you wouldn't even know they had a surgery- some dogs are sensitive and take some extra TLC. When I got Peanut neutered and baby teeth pulled out he was a mess when I picked him up… Later in the evening he wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, couldn't get comfortable. It was pretty hard- he to this day is a little dramatic so hopefully Maxi will be a strong boy for you!! Just wait till you pick him up and get him home, he will most likely be a little out of it tonight, just let him rest..

| My dogs(all but my first have been distantly related so don't know if it's the bloodline or what but they don't do well[to me} after anesthesia) stay the first night after surgery but by the 2nd p.o. day when I pick them up, they are still usually acting very lethargic, squealing tiny little, hardly audible sounds when moved or lifted, don't eat/drink hardly at all so I have to syringe some liquid in the side of the mouth, put a little soft food in the side pocket following the water a time or two. They do make it out to pee/potty shakily, though sometimes the potty part is not until the 3rd day! They scare me silly during this time but the vet just smiles and says they are fine, fine, fine so I imagine it is just me thinking the worst. Hope little Maxi does fine, fine, fine too!

| Update Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice! I just got the call from the vet... PHEW She said everything went well and he did great! She didn't give me many details besides saying that his tooth had a very large root and she was saving it for me to see it, lol, and asked that I keep an eye out on the adult teeth and schedule an appointment so she can make sure they are coming in correctly. She said I can pick him up after 3pm, but I think the earliest I can leave work is at 4pm. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'll update again after he's home again

aww, poor babies! I'll make sure to ask the vet for a syringe, just in case Maxi doesn't want to drink anything. Now that you mentioned the pee/potty issue, I wonder if I should line his ex-pen with pee pads...right now he is ringing a tell-bell when he needs to go potty, but after surgery he probably won't have the energy to do that. He also has a pet loo inside his ex-pen, but it's probably a bad idea for him to try to get up on it after surgery. Thanks for your input!
