| Ears gone floppy Phoebe is about 1 1/2 years old now, and I noticed in the last few months her ears have been floppy. I wonder if it's because I ask the groomers for a teddy bear face? Maybe they aren't trimming the ears down short enough? Its so weird that I didn't notice it in the first place, then I took her to the groomers today for the first time in a while and that's when it dawned on me that her ears are floppy. Is it possible if I take her in to have her ears shaved down, do you think her ears will stand back up again if they've been floppy for maybe two months? Any way to encourage them back up again, or is she going to have floppy ears? I love her regardless, just curious.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yeah, it could be bc the groomer is leaving her ears too heavy, like you're thinking. Do you have a clippers at home? If yes, you could lighten up her ears yourself. I'm not sure how you could get an adult's ears to stand back up after flopping; not sure if using tape is still viable....anyone?

| I dont think tape works on adult dogs!! Try just shaving her ears down or going to a different groomer and asking them to just tip the ears , it should only be a few bucks... my dogs ears are floppy but she has a cottony coat and her hair is very heavy , I just gave up shaving her ears , I kinda think they are cute floppy!

| Puppy Ears My puppy has one ear that has now gone floppy and one that stands up. She is only 3 1/2 months old and it started after her first grooming trip but they didn't do much to her other than just trim around her nose and feet and bottom. Should I be concerned? |

| Tink is 15 months old. I noticed that her ears were flopping over. I loved the long hair on her ears but I wanted her ears to stand back up. I used scissors and trimmed her hair on her ears. As soon as I was finished, her ears pricked right back up. I posted about it on here and posted pics |

| I will try and trim them a little bit. And Tink is absolutely adorable! Thank you, everyone, for your input!

| I trimmed her ears with scissors, and she was very good about it. I'm not sure I did the neatest job, but her ears are up again. I think I will have my husband try to neaten everything up with clippers. And now I know in the future to specifically request that they trim her ears at the groomers.

| Pixie has really strong ears. I got her 8 weeks with hairy standing ears, and pretty much they have always been that way. I love it, because she has the papillon look to her. Her ears have been tipped maybe 3 times? My mentor would do it when we'd go visit because she just can't stand seeing Pixie look, and I quote, A hairy mess. Except I stopped letting her do it this time last year, because I didn't want her ears getting cold, lol. Sabre is a cotton coat and he's ears are always a tiny bit too soft. He was tipped when I got him and I have actually had his whole ear shaved and they're still soft. I expect I'll have to have him shaved again soon, even though I prefer their ears warm for the winter, because his ears are getting too soft again. I have a feeling that worrying about Sabre's ears breaking down is going to be a life long thing for me. Last edited by Belle Noir; 11-12-2012 at 09:29 AM. |
