| Is it strange to feel like this?? Have you ever seen something hit by a car and feel bad about it? Even if it is an animal you are not very fond of? I was coming home from my son's football game. There was a car in front of me and right in front of my house the car hits a possum. The thing is, he didn't kill it. But I know he hit it. I felt so bad for it because it made me think maybe it was suffering. I know I know. Weird huh. We tried to find it because we were going to stop its suffering. But we were unable to find it. Now I am worried there might be an injured possum in my yard. I don't want my girls to find it that is for sure. So, now I am worried it is suffering and I am also worried my girls with run into it in the yard. UUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

| There is nothing wrong with what you are feeling, it is genuine and compassionate...I would feel bad too...your really batting 1000 with all the critters lately...I'm sorry you had to see that....

| It's not weird to feel like that at all! I feel that way every time I see any animal on the side of the road (or IN the road) that has been hit. Heck! One of my most traumatic experiences as a driver happened when I was 17 and hit a squirrel. Those things are cute but pests (we have no pecans left on our trees...my hubby calls them "yard rats"). But still..I felt so upset about that squirrel for such a long time. Why can't squirrels figure out which way they are going to go when they are in the middle of the road?! *sigh*

| I feel this way when I hit moths and butterflies. I definitely don't think it's odd to feel bad... I feel horrible whenever I see an animal on the side of the road. I've just always had a connection with animals.

| I felt terrible one time when I hit a raccoon I saw its eyes glowing at me before I hit him. It was either hit him or have a truck rear end me though because it was dark really dark and I had a trucker on my heels and we were going a pretty quick speed. I have never forgot hitting him its like it haunts me and I am super careful not to hit animals because of it even the dang squirrels who go out in the street and run back and forth

| Alright, now expect to shock and upset some people here and sorry for that. Several months ago a we saw sudden break lights in front if us down thw raod the car stopped. When we were behind the stopped car we saw what was left of a still moving racoon...it wasn't going to survive. I asked Derik if he'd run it over and finish it (not the best idea but it wasn't able to move and it was definately suffering...in the least it'd hemerage beyond survival soon). Derik said no we'd have to wash the car and that was morbid. All I could think was leaving it to die slowly was IMO morbid. What's worse is selective sometime...feeling compassion even for an undesirable is never strangle.

| In my pool in the backyard, if I see a fly moving around in the water, I feel too bad to just let him fight for his life and will get a net and get it out. Not sure what it is, but I just feel like I'd be a really bad person to let it just drown when all I had to do was scoop it out. Funny, I remember feeling like a weirdo too for feeling that way. |

| Late one night like around 2am we decided to go out of town (it was a four hr drive but wanted to surprise my bfs family)..I was looking down when it happened, and BF was driving...all I saw was something that looked HUGE and grey, possibly a raccoon, streak across the road and saw my bf try to slam on the brake...but we hit it and I screamed...the car jerked, it was so scary I wanted to stop and go back...find it...idk. but there were cars behind us, and we were so tired....for the rest of the car trip, I was shaken and felt this weird sensation like I wanted to cry or laugh. That sounds awful, but i was just so shaken! I felt so bad for the thing and said a little prayer that he rest in peace...apologised for taking his little soul...we felt SO BAD

| Oh thank goodness others feel the same way! I just hate the thought of anything suffering. . Even the scorpions and creepy centipedes around here get a quick death when I see them. I guess it is being a true nimble lover, regardless of the animal. The guy driving the car did try to miss it but on our road sometimes it just isn't possible. I hit a rabbit here one time and my son thought I was a weirdo. Lol. I was apologizing to the rabbit down the rest of the road. I kept saying I'm so sorry Mr Rabbit. .

| We found a snake in our backyard last weekend (not sure what kind...) so my husband and I killed it with a shovel. What's sad is that we weren't all that scared of the thing, but just felt terrible to have to chop it up!!! And afterwards while we were scooping him up to toss him into the field behind us...his poor little tongue was flicking in and out still. IT WAS A SNAKE, for heaven's sake!! I should not feel guilty for protecting my furbabies from a snake! But I did...felt awful. -C

| I agree with Concretegurl, compassion is never strange. I feel the same way when I see critters dead on the road or in my yard.

| No! You are not strange to feel this way. You saw something awful happen to an innocent little animal and worry it is in pain and scared and lonely there on that road. It is a terrible thing and it would haunt anyone. Do you know of a man who could go find it and put the poor little thing out of its misery humanely or take it in to the vet for care? It's so awful to think of any living little animal left like that and I'm sorry you had to witness it. I pray it is out of its misery by now.
