That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard!

Would a wife and husband spend time apart so they wouldn't miss each other when one passes on? Why would you separate two dogs that have a bond and enjoy each others company?! I really have to wonder where some of these places come up with their "trainers."

We have two basset hounds from the same litter. They are sisters and the reason I took the both of them so they would not be seperated. Thats how it's been for three years and I would never dream of keeping them apart.

I have 2 yorkies and 2 scotties before all of them I
had 2 PeekaPoos 2yrs apart in age one died at 18
the other died at 16 , 5 months later I think of a
broken heart and old age
Im married almost forty yrs and we are never apart
in our hearts.

When we lost Lolita Laddy grieved alot. He would search and search for her in and out of the house. It took several months but I don't think seperating them would of mattered.

I am not sure if you are quoting me ? Let me clarify what I meant about husbands and wife being separated, so they don't grieve when one dies. When I said that, I meant that would be a stupid idea. A Husband and wife belong together. Members of a family should do most things together. But, I think Yorkies need individual attention, just like you and I do. It is great to be part of a family but, we all need some one on one time. I never said it was a good idea to keep dogs apart so they wouldn't grieve when one dies.
After years of training all kinds of dogs, We devloped a training method especialy for small dogs.
Most of you know, Now I only train puppies and small breed dogs (toy sized) . We never use collars on them as a training tool. I am sorry the trainer you had, was so out of touch with the newer methods. You did the right thing by choosing a gentle, patient, reward based style of teaching.

Dog Perfect by Sarah Hodgson

Most states don't have any regulations on this and anyone can call themselves a trainer and behaviorist.

Hello I am new to this site, I have 2 male yorkies one is 3 the other is 2. I am having a problem with one urinating on my new sofa. can't afford to toss out, and i really don't want to get rid of my babies I love them but I can't have them ruin my house!!! HELP!!!

I made a bad choice in class. Oh well, nothing I can do now. I'm sad I wasted all that money though!

It took me a while to decide I needed a professional to show me how teach my Yorkies good manners. I signed up both boys for a six class session with a trainer at my Vet's and enlisted my sister to work with one dog while I worked with the other. It was such a disappointment... She seemed only to be interested in showing off her HUGE pit bull that she brought to the first class to demonstrate commands. Then she proceded to flirt with a guy in the class that she had convinced to adopt a big dog stray that had been dropped at the Vet office. After demonstrating 'loose lease' introductions between dogs, she dropped the PB leash while she flirted with the guy, and I picked up my babies; and my sister and I left -- never to return again. They didn't call; didn't inquire... I'm thinking this scene had been repeated many times. BTW... elephants will grieve for a companion to the point of death, but dogs?! Likely not. It can be very sad, heartbreaking, but if love and affection is still available from another source, the dog should recover.

Every trainer and behaviorist I have met did an innitial meet and greet for free where they evaluated where they'd place my dog prior to contract, classes etc.

I liked that I got a feel fir their specific style although I really regret our first trainer, we didnt have to pay for her classes we didn't attend.

We did get a discount with the second trainer for paying in advance for a 5 or 6a class commitment, glad it worked for us, but just blindly paying a stranger for a class set seems unfair to me.

Excuse my ignorance, but what the heck do collars have to do with training? Do they mean collars will help improve walks because the dog will not want to choke itself? I don't understand.
