My Peek got really sick a week after I brought Tink home. She had a bit of a runny nose... he ended up developing pneumonia, even after being put on ABs as soon as I saw the runny nose on him.

| Awe I was worried that it could be pneumonia too. We were able to get him in at the vet this morning. Just got off the phone with my BF and basically was told that he pretty much has the onset of the collapse trachea. At the moment, since it is so early, there really isn't too much they can do for him. They gave us cough suppresent medicine. I guess the vet told my bf that in more severe cases, they do surgery but his is very minor right now and is just something he is going to have especially since it is prevelant in yorkies and hereditary. Everything else with him was fine. His weight is perfect which helps with the collapse trachea and all his vitals and everything were good. There was no infection or anything of that sort. I feel so bad for him I'm gonna grill my bf when I get home from work about exactly what the vet and breeder said to him just so I can get all the complete info.

| Courtney, I pray Geno does not have CT. If I am not mistaken, CT cannot be confirmed with only a physical exam -- that xrays or some kind of testing needs to be done. Does Geno have episodes when he physically exerts himself? Does he have problems being active? As for balancing Geno and Mia, everyone above gave great advice about putting Geno first for everything. My guys are buddies, but it is a balancing act.

| Oh, that is bad news for you and Geno. I have read that CT can get worse as they get older. They can degenerate more as they age. I would get online and read up on it as much as possible. Probably there is something here on YT about it since it is so prevalent in Yorkies. There may be nutritional supplements that may help to slow down degeneration. He doesn't wear a collar or anything right? You might want to consider not letting him play too aggressively with the puppy. Keeping him calm should help with his breathing and cough. |

When Geno is playing is when it's the worse but he'll do it a little bit even when he gets up to move around. He still will try to be active but I've been keeping a close eye on his sister cause she can play a little rough with him so I've been trying to calm her down a little when it comes to him.

| CT can be diagnosed some times just by feeling the trachea. They can also do x rays. Some of the symptoms of CT are much like a upper respiratory infection but a totally different cause of the effect. |

| IDK... CT is very serious, Geno is how old? Dogs can be born with CT or it can come from an injury (wearing a collar or intubation during surgical procedure... etc). If you are just seeing symptoms now, I think I'd be getting a second opinion, unless a recent injury has occured, with an xray or two, and a scope. And ask about a supplement (glucosamine/chondroitin) to help strengthen the cartilage... if CT is definitely diagnosed.

| get him to vet [QUOTE=courtney1121;4028990]No not really. Like everyone told me - oh they'll be friends in no time, give it some time, they'll be fine, ect He's not really mean with her. He does get a little aggressive when they are playing tug-a-war with a toy (his growling gets extreme). She snatched his treats a few times and he angrily snapped at her which I don't blame him. I don't really scold too much if he snaps at her cause I figure he's trying to correct her by doing this but if it looks like their playing gets too aggressive I will scold them or threaten them with the "Pet Corrector". This always gets Geno to stop what he's doing. Any time he's laying down and she comes up to lay down next to him, he'll move. My mom noticed that any time I pick her up, Geno is watching my every move. [/QUOTE Please get him to vet asap my boy acted like that & my vet wouldnot listen. He ended up with infection in his whole body. Had to be rushed to emgergency clinic & very sick for over two weeks . I could have lost him for sure.My prayers are with you!! Sweeti |

Best bet: Get cultures and sensitivities on them both... that can shorten the treatment time and get them both better quicker than trying different antibiotics....

| I know I was thinking that too blah I think I'm gonna be safe and take her to the vet tomorrow. All I've heard all day today is 2 dogs sniffling. Geno's lungs and everything were clear so I want to make sure she is looking good as well. Going to push them to do tests because I really would like to know what is wrong.

When Peek A Boo was sick, I bought a stethoscope so I could listen to his lungs, and if they didn't sound right I could rush him back in to see the vet, instead of waiting for symptoms to become evident. Thermometer too. His temp went over 105 d. F. He started with clear nasal discharge, and my vet started him on an antibiotic as a preventative, but the next day the discharge was cloudy, and there was a ton of it. He stopped eating and just layed in his bed, till I stopped to check him and saw his tongue was purple/blue. His heartbeat was soooo slow, but when I began to pet him, his HR increased. We went to a local vet, where I was told he had a very poor prognosis. They changed his ABs and gave him AB injections and nebulized him, then sent him home! I never cried so much in my whole life. Then the next day, he started eating again... but had to stay on the ABs for 30 days. He pulled through.... but I'll never ignore cold symptoms again, or wait to get treatment. It came on so quickly, one day he was eating, the next he wasn't and couldn't get up. Scared me to death!
