Be careful calling and asking too many questions....you are tipping your hand! It is amazing to me how, to the untrained eye, all yorkies look alike....why, a person could have 2 yorkies, alternate them going outside, and really nosey neighbors would never know, unless they were notably different sizes or colors......just sayin.......

I think that two small dogs is a bit extreme of a limit, especially if they're fixed.

We have NO limit here, we dont even have dog licensing except for rabies tags. The only thing we have is a leash law.

But in her heyday, I swear she would have had all the dogs she could and I fear, wouldn't have cared how much trouble they were to the neighbors before her change.

Our mayor wrote a newsletter stating the reason we could have no more than 3 dogs is that is usually all one normal person can handle without causing problems in the neighborhood. I fear he was right as some people just cannot handle a lot of dogs very well and if you are unlucky enough to live next door to someone like that, you are thankful for rules!

I know of a lady who lived next to bikers who had 4 or 5 German Shepherd Dogs and only a Cox fence. She said the dogs were constantly barking day and night in those loud, deep GSD's voices, kept all the grass from growing in their yard from their constant pacing and it was so unsightly just living next to a house with a dirt yard. She said the GSD's jumped the fence into her yard frequently and were often running free out front. She said she could barely leave her house some days because of snarling GSD's at her doors and Animal Control only visited, gave warnings and slunk off. She said when she confronted one of the bikers, a day or so later, when she was gardening, he walked over, put his hand across the back of her neck and dug in and told her what they would do to her if she EVER complained of the dogs again.

I think that is why some cities and towns have to have rules to inhibit dog ownership as it can just get so out of hand with some people.

I understand how you feel about barking. I had my fill of it when I lived in town. But it was ONE dog that barked all night long right next door to me. It is unfortunate that it's the irresponsible actions of a few that cause problems that shape policy for all citizens. I believe fines for barking dogs (most towns have restrictions on loud noise after certain hours already) and other ordinances could contain that issue. Sanitary laws could contain people who do not clean up after their dogs. I don't think 3 dogs are any less annoying then 5 in the hands of an irresponsible owner. Making sweeping laws that effect everyone is not the way to deal with irresponsible pet ownership. If a person cannot properly and humanely care for their animals they should not be allowed to have them. Ignorance and bad manners seem to be on the increase but there are still responsible people who do not want their rights taken away due to the actions of people who could care less about their neighbors. It seems that the innocent American is suffering more and more because of what some pretty horrific groups have done.

Hell I just found out we are not permitted to have bird feeders, wth? Garbage goes in town provided totes so whats the big deal with that...now the important thing/story:

My new neighbors are very nice, around 50ish..55ish...so close to my age...anyways, they asked me if "while your on that step ladder could you see if that lady 3 yards down still has a bird feeder in her yard?" mind you 3 yards down is 6 privacy fences down... Of course I said NO...but really? First line of order when I get in is to get that privacy fence that covers 3/4 of my yard extended to cover the portion thats open to theirs...I will then have a fully fenced yard...wth???

p.s. My Mom would love a Yorkie, she lives down the street from my new house...perhaps I will have to dogsit for her

Our mayor said in his newsletter that statistics show that for every 3 dogs per household, there are x-number of complaints and incidents, with a certain number involving 911, police/ambulance/fire(our fire dept. goes along to facilitate entry into some homes) and that taxation and funding were real consideration in setting the number of dogs at 3. Said that 4 dogs per household escalates the complaints/incidents and city's involvement, including use of the courts, and would cost too much in response ability, particularly with police. Since our city uses extra funds to fix up the homes of the poor so that there are no shacks, unpainted or unsightly homes here due to this program, which is particulary helpful to poorer families or old folks still living in their homes, they elected to use the extra funds on that program rather than responding to and handling the additional incidence of complaints and 911 calls they would have to handle with the addition of the 4th dog in an estimated number of households who would have 4th dogs. It seemed to me like a well-reasoned and practical approach for an urban area facing so many issues in need of tax-dollars. I guess people in our area that want more dogs will need to choose to live in a more rural area.

I would register the dog with the town to mom's address. She just needs to go along with it. You are allowed to petsit.


Off topic- My cousin got reported by a nosey neighbor as running a day care center which she was not running. Between her and her 2 sisters there are 13 kids. She really was babysitting her nieces and nephews. . She would also watch a co-workers kids on the days she did not work so that added a few more kids. She lives on a private road with her 1 sister.

I hate nosey neighbors! They need to mind their own business. The one nosey one recently passed away so I thought we'd stop getting harassed by him complaining to the city, but no! Theres still another one. Getting cited for having our trash cans out, but a bunch if other people do it too!

The neighbors just smiled and laughed. She was so shocked and said she finally stood up, thanked them for coming and said she was going to have to lie down - just to get them to take the 3 kids and go. They planted some type of vine on her fence without her permission, because they like it themselves, and it took over, creeping into her yard and up her trees! It took months to finally kill it off. And when she goes to the doctor, they come over afterward and ask her what she went for. She is way more patient with them than I would be as she has yet to chew them out!

That is just over the top. With all the problems with the economy and crime you would think the local politicians could find something else to control. I wonder if they also restrict cats from going outside? Cats are very useful in controlling the rodent population. They consider it "play." I used to have mice in my shed until the cats moved in.

Gosh lynzy....I guess that includes hummingbird feeders too???? they draw bees and wasps....that is taking bees away from their job of pollinating the crops that produce the food we all need to survive....YOU and all the hummingbird lovers are having a devastating effect on the crops being produced, and that makes you directly responsible for any current food storages we may be experiencing....so I will be securing an attorney and will pursue to the fullest extent of the law, a suit against you for the tomatoes and cucumbers or whatever grows in your part of the country that makes its way to my Kroger and HEB that I am not getting....all because crazy people like you insist on feeding hummingbirds!!!!!!!!!

we have a limit of 3 here I asked animal control when they were here checking license. Not because I want to get another. My life if full with Waffles.. lol But because my neighbor has 5 VERY YAPPY Chichiuas.
