| Sophie was chipped without anesthesia by our vet and she didn't seem to notice she just wanted to play. No aftereffects either. I would worry more about giving her the anesthetic.

| I just had my Bella done last week without anything.....she did not even yelp or cry. I was pleasantly surprised! She did notice that something was not right all day because she kept twisting her neck around, wanting to get to the spot....next day she was fine.

| The Rescue where I volunteer will implant a microchipped without Anesthesia and the dogs all seem to be fine. Sophie Kate had hers implanted when she was spayed and Avery (the cat) had his put in a few months ago when he had his dentals. Not sure why I Avery microchipped, he doesn't go outside and inside he sleeps a lot but I just wanted in case for some reason somone stole my prized rescue cat (j/k).

A microchip can be the only positive proof of ownership.

| Since so many vets don't validate ownership via the chips, I wish our smartphones had a chip scaning app so that when people find dogs, at least there would be a good chance for them to do the right thing. Maybe if we had that, more people would keep their online info current and correct.

| I asked my vet about microchipping. She said to wait until her spay. She said the needle is really big. My Yorkie is only 3 pounds. |

| Lollie was microchipped with any anesthetic or numbing agent. The needle was a large one and I was a bit worried, but Dr. Amy and her assistant are fantastic. Lollie didn't even flinch and never showed any signs of being tender in the injection area. |

| I have microchipped many cats and dogs, without anesthesia. We pinch the excess skin between the shoulder blades, push it in to create a pocket, then the needle is pushed in under the skin. The first time I did it, I was scared to hurt the animal. 9/10 times they dont even make a yelp. It's very quick. The furbutts usually go right back to walking around and playing.

![]() Ask your vet to use a topical anesthetic cream before microchipping if he doesn't get it done during the hernia op.

| haven't read the other comments - If I have a reason to put the dog under, I'll have it done while they're out, but if I don't, I'll do it anyway. With the little ones, my vet does like to inject some lidocane to numb the area a bit first and gives it a bit to work before doing the microchip, because it is a bit painful. That may be something you want to ask your vet about. My vet is the only one I've known to do that, I've seen and helped microchip thousands without any kind of anesthetic, local or otherwise.

| Buster got chipped without anesthesia and he never yelped or reacted to the needle. Make sure to register your information with the microchip company. They can't contact you unless you provide them with your information.
