I've had this same procedure done on my thyroid three different times; the first time was without any anesthesia at all and the last two times with a local injection of anesthesia. The actual stick wasn't what bothered me, but rather the feel of the needle being moved around inside my throat to remove thyroid tissue. That was AWFUL! If it had just been an injection and then removing the needle, no big deal. So I'd equate just the insertion of the biopsy needle with what a microchip injection is like. They won't be scrapping the needle around inside to do a microchip.
