| I think it really depends on the puppy. We had our hearts set on a female but we took one look at Rowdy and our hearts melted. We picked him up and he licked our faces. We held him like a baby (on his back) and he just looked up at us with those sweet eyes and it was all over. I do think he is more attached to me that to his daddy (with whom he is with all day long - I work, he doesn't). But I would say that he is most happy when his daddy and I sit on the couch and he can sit between us! He is 10 months old, not yet neutered, he lifts his leg to pee, but he doesn't mark in the house. My advice is to go with your heart!

| I think it is a choice you have to make. Some people like females , some males. If you don't breed your male you shouldn't have a problem with marking and if you fix your female you won't have a problem with the heat cycle.

| I have heard that females are alpha personalities and males are lovers. I chose a male because I wanted a snuggler and a lover. He is my baby. He does not hike or mark. Hiking is a learned behavior so he was never exposed to other males that hiked before he was neutered at 6 months. I was never intending to breed so it was not necessarry to wait any longer than 6 months to neuter him. I think you should go with what fits your personality. I am a dominant personality so I did not want to clash with my baby so I chose a male. Do what makes you happy.

| I honestly love both. But, I never owned a male dog. We only owned 2 dogs before. Our first dog was a chihihihua mix and she was a female. My mom and dad got her right after they were married, so a year before I was even born. Mitzi lived to be 17 years. She was mean to people she did not know. And the only men she liked was my dad and my brother. She also hated other dogs. And she did not back down to any dog even if it was way bigger than her. But, I guess that was the chihihihua (sp) in her even if she was not pure bred. Then, there was Lacey (our yorkie) She was sweet as can be. But, boy, she sure loved my dad! She was daddy's girl for sure. Whenever he was reading his newspaper or watching TV, she had to be in his lap. And she would not go to bed unless my dad went first. Had to be with her daddy. She would even get sad when my dad would leave for a week to go to work. (He works offshore 7 and 7.) We have our hearts set on another yorkie female. I can't even convince my mom to maybe get a male if we can't get a female. Because I really love both. And if I had the extra money, I would buy one of each. My mom told me she wants the dog paper trained and as a house dog. And that the males will pee all over her wall and hump. I told her that is not true. And most males will only cock their leg outside. I think males are just as sweet and very affectionate. I went to this lady's house to look at her yorkies. (Her female is due around New Years Eve) She also owns a male. And I fell in love with him even though he is not for sale. But, he is so sweet. He jumped in my lap and kept giving me kisses. He was more affectionate than her female yorkie.

| I have a female, Vivi, and she is the kissiest,,and most cuddly, devoted dog I have ever known. I knew this the second I met her when she was 12 weeks old. She looked at me and kissed me and when I held her like a baby she and I both fell madly in love.I agree that it is a matter of making a connection with the puppy when you first meet him/her. Male or female depends on that connection.Try and keep an open mind and go with your instincts.Vivi is definately a mommy's girl.
