Every time I read about this in one of your posts I try to put myself in your place and, of course, never can. No way the mind can accept this or manage to process what going through that experience can ever be like - it just is one of those things too horrifying to deal with in the imagination. I don't know how you managed the reality of it and stayed sane. Must have haunted you for years and years every night trying to sleep and first thing during the night, every morning when you wake and when you thought about her, saw her pictures, saw her things. Must be one of, if not the, worst experiences of losing one's beloved pet I've ever heard of. I can't imagine how you must hate hawks. I know your story has kept me much more vigilant than I ever was before when Tibbe is out. It's a story one never forgets.
