| Questions about flying with my yorkie My fiance wants to go to his parents place in Florida over President's Day. I told him I only want to go if we can bring Joey. We will be flying from NY. I know nothing about flying with a dog....can he ride on the plane with us? We want to fly Continental or JetBlue...do either of these airlines accept dogs? Joey is really quiet if we carry him in a bag where his head sticks out the side...but I think for flying you have to have your dog in a carry-on that closes completely So, there may be an issue of him barking. Have any of you "checked" your dogs and put them in the cargo of the plane? How were your experiences with this....I would be so worried about Joey if had to ride down there... Thanks in advance for any advice! |

| Check out the airline policy on carrying on pets. And search this forum for this subject (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ghlight=flying see if this link works). I think some members mentioned they flew with their yorkie on JetBlue. Personally, I would never put my dog in cargo. It's not temperature controlled and there are way too many cases of dogs and other pets dying in cargo. I'm actually taking Trixie along on NorthWest Airlines to see my folks in the Netherlands over Christmas. I'm very very very excited Trixie is coming along with us, but I am worried about the long flight with her...

| I flew to Florida with Vivi on Continental and will be flying again to Atlanta over Christmas. You must call the airline and book a ticket for your dog. Then within 30 days of your flight you must get your vet to sign a note that says your dog is up to date on shots and healthy to fly. On the airline website they list all the details. Your carrier must fit under the seat in front of you and they are very strict about the dog staying in the carrier during the flight. As far as size goes the dog must be 10 lbs or under and be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier. I was really lucky because Vivi slept the entire time. Before the flight I took her into the ladies room and put a pee-pee pad down and she went to the bathroom. I haven't had to take her to the bathroom on the plane yet. I hope this helps and best of luck on your flight.

| Good news! You CAN fly with your baby on the plane. Check with the airline you plan to use and their policy on small pets. Then find out what carriers are approved by their airline to be on the plane. You might have to purchase a special carrier, but it's worth it. It can be very traumatic for adog to go into cargo hold.

| i'm flying with my bunjee to san diego this christmas via united airline. upon booking your human tickets, you have to call the reservation desk to tell them you're bringing animal in cabin with you. united has a 2 animals in cabin policy, ie, no more than 2 carry-on pets in the cabin. the reservationist will also check that you do not have a bulk head seat, ie, a seat with no under the seat the front of you storage such as the first row of seats in each class and the emergency exit row. you pay the travel fee for the pet when you check in at the airport. united charges $80 one way for in cabin, $100 cargo. i'm also checking in a travel crate as one of my check-in luggage so that bunjee would have a crate when we arrive in san diego. i also checked southwest air, but they have a no animals policy, either in cabin or cargo. |

| Ive flown several times with my Yorkie in the cabin with me. Once from OR to CO, another time from OR to PA. Like someone said before, they are very strict about keeping the dog in the crate. They also like you to keep the dog in the crate as long as youre in the airport. Before the flight, I would start training with your Yorkie in the crate he will be flying in. And if he still is not handling it well, you can also try a natural calming remedy like Bach's stress relief spray.
