| Odd Behavior? Suzi was spayed and had a dental on Wednesday. She is doing very well, today is her best day so far. however with one expection, She has a little soft toy frog that is her favorite toy, for the past few days she caries the toy in her mouth and runs around crying or whining with it. She will come into the family room and cirle the coffee table, back in one of the bedrooms, and does it again and again the whining, the whole time carring her frog. She hasdone this once before, however she was not spayed then, and I thought she was acting like the frog was her 'puppy" But she is spayed? Is it her hormones out of whack due to the spay? I feel bad for her, and a few time she has gotten growling at me, when I checked her insision, I pet and try to comfort her. But she is acting like a momma dog with this toy, so I am a little confused by this behavior . She just had her last dose of paim med today , and will be taking her antibiotics twice a day until gone. I do not know how to help her feel better. She is, however gaining back her energy, and I have to keep her out of my sons bedroom, his bed is too high and she should nt be jumping right now, so she is upset about that too. Any ideas?

I would assume her hormones are out of whack. She may need a couple of weeks to get back into a normal rhythm

| My sister had a Silky Terrier that would do this with her dragon toy when she had heat. She said that every time she had a heat she became a little mommie and would treat that toy so tenderly. After her heat was over, she would go back to biting and pouncing on the toy as usual. I would guess it is her hormones doing funny things.

| We had my sister's Maltese, Bella, and my Yorkie, Maci, spayed at the same time. Bella was 4 1/2 at the time and Maci was still a puppy so recovery seemed a bit harder for Bella anyway, but she also did the same thing as your Yorkie. She had a little stuffed bone, like a stuffed animal that she basically had not attachment to before she was spayed. After the surgery she took the toy everywhere. It was almost always in her mouth or laying next to her. She would also growl if she thought we were trying to take it, and she would go looking for it if it wasn't with her. She was like this for a few weeks, as well as being kind of grumpy in general, but after she completely recovered all of the wierd behavior stopped. Hopefully Suzi's recovery will be similar and she will feel back to normal soon!

| It may be hurting her mouth to carry it but she has a need to carry it. She may just not understand why her baby is causing her pain. Hope she feels better soon. The dental may be sore.

| Yup, it's her hormones out of whack. I had a foster who went through a false pregnancy. She carried, fed and protected her stuffed puppy for about 3 weeks, before she started to calm down and return back to normal. Just let her tend to her toy and she will be fine soon, poor baby.

| Thank you so much for the feedback, i figured it had to have something to do with the spay and her hormones our of whack. Glad Suzi is not the only yorkie or dog that has done this behavior, because it feels really helpless to do anything for her. Somehow her "baby" frog toy gives her comfort , so I just let her be. The toy is always at her side or in her mouth. She runs around the coffee table in a circle or goes to the dining area whining, and wimpering with her frog in her mouth, i'm sure it will pass, just feel bad for her.
