| Is it to hot to take Milo with us to car show? We are going to a car show tomorrow and I thought about taking Milo. I hate to leave him all day tomorrow but it is going to be about 97 here tomorrow. He has a harness that he will wear to. I see people with their pet but I haven't ever taking him. What do you think? Should I leave him or take him? We will b there about 7 hours.

| I agree with Sugarmamma, I would only take him if you have the equipment to keep him cool. When I take ZoE to summer festivals, I take her stroller with a cool gel mat in the bottom of it and I have a spraybottle/fan combo that I hook onto the stroller & leave the fan running (which means I have to take extra batteries). I plan ahead & freeze bottles of water and put a few in the basket under the stroller and a few in a cooler in the basket under the stroller (the ones not in the cooler melt fastest & get used first). I make sure ZoE has plenty of water throughout the day & I take a collapsible bowl and pour water in it and dip each of her paws in the bowl, many times throughout the day. And I spray her down throughout the day too. It takes a little pre-planning and work, but it is possible to take your pup with you on a hot day & keep them comfortable.

| IMO if you bring alot of water and you aren't to hot. The dog will be fine. If you are sweating like a pig then maybe time to leave or get some shade. |

I also use the freezable "lunchbox" type gel packs to put under a thin blanket. carrying extras in a small cooler. My girls go NUTS when they see me reach into the cooler for a fresh gel pack

| I didn't know they made cooling mats...I'm going to have to get one now. We've used the kid's portable misting fans when we took Scoobers camping. Love the name Milo that's my oldest son's name! His sister named him after the main character in her fav book at the time, Milo the mouse, it was fitting since her nick name which is all we use is Maisy, my aunt gave it to her from the books about Maisy the mouse.

| Pavement is way too hot for a dog's feet in that weather. If you can carry him in a well ventilated carrier it may be safe but stay out of the direct sun for long periods of time. Strollers are idea for that type of thing but 97 is very hot. I'd stay home in the AC! |

| I think that it's probably to long to have him out in the heat, heck I wouldn't even be out in that heat. If it is on stuff the the road is made out of or concrete it could burn his paws.

| So how the car show going to look?? Everything out side? Shade ,misting areas? I don't think they are having a car show in that heat and not have areas for ppl to cool down. If they have ppl area then you dogs will be fine. You plan on carrying him if on hot concrete? Some ppl like strollers but I always have made my dog walk. They prefer it. Always did fine. But if the ground is melting gum maybe to hot to walk. But if they are under tents. With plenty of water you will be fine. Just pay attention to the dog. If it gets to hot then leave if you can't cool down. I would bet if it's to hot for the dog you won't want to be there either. |

| If your not sure what the temperature of the pavement or walk ways are I suggest you take your shoes off and try it out for yourself. Dog's feet feel the heat as much as you do. Don't put your dog on pavement or walkways in that kind of heat. Dogs do prefer to walk but they will suffer with painfully burned foot pads for days after exposure to such heat. Also Yorkies have thinner hair than most dogs and can get sunburned from that kind of direct sunlight. If you plan to stay in the shade I'm sure that would be great but I doubt you will get to see much. |

| Way too stressful to have a dog out in that kind of heat for any reason unless you have to take him to a vet for some reason. He is far better off at home even if you are going to be away for a while. Leave food and water at home for him toys and his bed, he'll be fine and thank you for it. Don't forget, heat can cause stress, stress can make them very vulnerable to illnesses even a day or two later. |

| We left Milo at home. I have saw a few little dogs here but I am glad we left him at home. It is hot but it's in the grass and some shade. Milo is our first little dog so I am still learning. He is so much like a baby. We just hate to leave him

| I would took him. If it was to hot then I would have left. I use take my previous Yorkie Hiking. Easy 3-5 mile hikes. He would run/walk the whole way. never want to be carried. I use "caution" and don't over do it. But I like Yorkies because they like to run and can do it all day if thats what you do with them. Not jogging but your walking is there run They can be couch potatoes as well but mine always wanted to go do something. Yorkies are perfect for the active person..but doesn't want to keep up with a Border collie Last edited by ironmike86; 07-04-2012 at 08:48 AM. |
