| Sophie was eating Royal Canin when I got her from the breeder...after comparing it to other dog foods I tried to change her to Wellness as it was always rated higher...she wanted nothing to do with it and ate around it. I tried for days...so it was back to Royal Canin. No problems with it, vet and breeder approved so we will stick with it for now.

| Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We had KS on Royal Canin too. The breeder had her on it and we just continued, but she just would not eat it. She would nit pick at it but she just wasn't crazy about it. We changed to TOTW, but with the recent recalls we are probably going to swap again. I did check our bag of TOTW and it was not part of the recall, but you just never know and that is what worries me.

"Because we have set this standard for ourselves, Merrick™ foods contain no ingredients from China – no foods, no vitamins, no minerals." But whatever it's made in Usa and the list of ingredient looks good to me = No CORN. I want a healthy Usa made food.

| Have you looked into Fromm? They're a US based company and get all of their ingredients from the US as well. They are also small and family-owned which is a plus for me! My pup is currently eating from the grain-free line (beef frittata veg) and doing well on it. |

| The ingredients in the Merrick dog food formulas look pretty good to me but I don't really trust that company. They have had several recalls in the past (I think just on their treats but it still makes me iffy on the company as a whole). I'm sure many people have had positive experiences with feeding Merrick but it's just something to keep in mind. |

| I changed my girls to Burns from RC because the dog trainer reckoned they were hyper because of the high protein content. Burns has 21% protein. It is make in the UK with ingredients from their own farm no grain no additives hypoallergenic. My vet was not happy when I took Molly in recently he wanted a higher protein in their food and suggested I feed RC or Wellbeloved (another UK make). So if the professionals can't agree on what's best what chance have we got.

| You know I have heard the same thing about high protein foods, but I haven't seen any evidence on high protein foods causing hyperactivity or even being correlated. If your dog doesn't have any preexisting kidney conditions, I would think that a moderate or even higher protein diet should be fine. If your dog isn't very active and isn't going to use all of the protein they consume in their diets, it'll just get converted to fat and be stored. |

And I totally agree with you about recalls. Merrick is US based and uses only ingredients from the US and their formulas look very good to me...there is definitely a lot worse you could feed your dogs. It can be hard for some people to find a quality food that is also easily accessible and affordable and something they feel comfortable giving their pets. In the end, you just have to feed what your pets do well on! I hope I didn't sound like I was getting on your case! It's sounds like your doing a ton of research and have your dogs' best interest at heart so I'm sure you'll end up with a great food for them!
