| How many dogs do you have? We have just Callie and she gets a bath once a week and our house doesn't smell. Now my mom who has two beagles and one yorkie her house smells a bit like dog but the beagles don't get baths as often as her yorkie because they hate it and afterwards they will roll around outside. The only time Callie ever smells is when she been outside for a bit but that smell goes away after being inside for about 30 minutes.

| Thanks but its definitely when the neighbor uses their fireplace. If my Dad pets Georgie he smells like cigarette smoke since my Dad smokes. Georgie usually smells great but I can always tell when the neighbor is using the fireplace or someone that smokes pets him. I am also strange and have a crazy sense of smell (especially since I was pregnant with my 4 year old skin son).

| Well, we definitely can't have our house smelling like dog. We do all this: 1.) Avery gets a weekly bath-- this helps 2.) During baths, he gets a pet cologne spray probably once a day (at least) 3.) Soy candles are usually burning non-stop (this was pre-dog as well) 4.) If Avery has an accident, we quickly clean it up and then put a layer of Glade carpet odor remover and vacuum 5.) Our furniture gets a good Febreezing daily. To save money on this, we buy Downy unstopables and put a capfull in a spritzer with hot water. Shake to melt and then spray.

| You received some good input. Personally, we don't have the dog smell in our house either. Tatiana gets a weekly bath. We have hard floors throughout our home. Our sofa is leather, and it has a sofa cover that I can wash in the washing machine. Also, Tatiana's beds gets washed every week. She gets a clean toy every day. Her soiled toys from the day before gets put in her hamper (yes, Tatiana has her own hamper. She's family. ). When her hamper fills up, the contents get laundered.I guess whatever holds on to odor gets washed (her coat, sofa cover, her bed, etc). The rest of our home does not hold on to odor (like the hard floor, walls, etc.) Last edited by MidnightUnicorn; 05-07-2012 at 04:50 PM. Reason: Typos |

| I'd try to figure out what was creating the smell. If it's food (or 'post-food'...lol) causing the smell in their fur, or leaf mold smell from walking outdoors or lying on the ground, or cooking smells absorbed by their fur and held in their hair...whatever...and address that particular issue. If they've got any kind of bacterial or fungal issue from being outdoors, etc., then I'd use something anti-bacterial/anti-fungal to wash them with or spray as a grooming/in-between-bath spray...like coconut oil and water solution...maybe with a little peppermint oil added, etc...but something safe if they lick it off. I'd only use anti-fungal chemicals immediately before or during a bath so they could be washed/rinsed out completely. I'd likely be more inclined to use a vinegar (or maybe lemon juice) rinse at bath time, maybe even a baking soda or epsom salt solution as well...not together with the vinegar, of course...no foamy dogs for me! lol I'd try one thing at a time to see what works bathing as often as the smell returned until eliminated. I am hyper-chemically-sensitive, so I would not use scented stuff like Febreeze or Glade carpet or air freshener products, or oil scents in plug-in form, etc., so to eliminate the smell would require me to eliminate the cause cleanly and safely. I always used baking soda when I had carpet, which worked as well as anything else between cleanings but didn't cause breathing issues for anyone. Mine do not really have a smell, but they like to go outside and lie on the ground...you can smell the ground on their undersides afterward, especially if the ground is damp...like the shady spots they like to lie in, so they can easily find themselves in a bath soon afterward...especially if they have decided to do any dirt-slinging or digging. lol Good luck...I hope you find a solution that meets your needs.

| Weekly baths, Arm and hammer makes a great product that smells great and it attracts any dog hair. Carpet fresh I think it is called. Wash dog bedding, harness and create weekly also. Dog bowls get a good cleaning. Carpets cleaned every 6 months. Yes and grooming.. When Corky has longer hair, the doggie smell is up and kicking more. Keep beard clean after eating. |

| Thanks, I gave Ellington his first bath today and now I know he can be washed with no fuss, I'm hoping it will be easier. I also bought a nice smelling dog spray to brush through his fur! |

| Good Dog, even in the bath. I'd throw out any plastic bowls you have for him if you do have any since they harbor bacteria. With carpet the Arm & Hammer product for dogs is great For floors a steamer is the best idea mentioned here. Sounds like baths will be easy and that is just wonderful.

I'm kinda a new Yorkie mom. I've only had CoCo since New Year's Day and I am getting my carpets cleaned next week. I use Nature's Miracle when she has an accident, and I also do her laundry as much as possible with the Tide that also contains Febreeze. I Febreeze the dog beds and my sofa once a week too. Baths are once a week, so I do her laundry as she's getting a bath so things are always fresh. I even Febreeze her playpen. My sofa isn't bad since she loves her dog beds so much. | |

| Donating YT 500 Club Member | I do the same as others have mentioned I wash Taycie's bedding, she like blankets, so I have alot around the house, in her crate and in her car seat. I change my sheets weekly because she sleeps with me too.I have 2 scensty's that I keep on throughout the day. I am a clean freak in general so floors always get swept and mopped, vacummed throughout the week. Taycie also is bathed weekly ,sometimes sooner but I don't ever go past 10 days because she needs it
