Yup, after that first month, it gets easier. I NEVER thought Beanie would stop peeing and pooping on the floor. In the beginning I used an exercise pen that she HATED. She would jump and jump in it, all in her pee and poop. Finally, I just took a panel down at a time and put her pee pads outside of it. I no longer have the pen, I block her off in the kitchen when I go to work. Now, I let her follow me around the house and she has the living room and kitchen to run around in when I am home.

She consistently goes to the pee pad in the kitchen even if she is in another room with me. The only thing she does do, is when she is pooping on the pad, she doesn't finish because she wants to go to the next thing she wants to do. SO, she does little poops on the floor. She also poops on the floor next to the pee pad once in awhile. I don't get mad at her, I just pick it up. She doesn't go potty outside, has no CLUE how to do it. I have tried to get her to go, but she doesn't know that it is o.k. She will hold it until we get home and then go on the pee pad. It is pretty strange going HOME to potty instead of going OUT. But I don't care because I would rather have her know what to do inside so I am not tied to an outside potty schedule.

It gets easier and easier as the weeks go by until you forget how hard it really was!!

She doesn't pee and poop withing 20 minutes of eating like all the books says she will do, she pees in her crate even though it was very small, she never wanted to eat breakfast until 11:00 am, etc, etc. however, she does sleep with me all night long without making a move, she is starting to run to the door and scratch when she has to pee, she consistently poops morning noon and night she looks at me and cocks her head as if to say I love you for all your dedication and hardwork.

She has stole my heart!
A puppy will pee in the crate because it has a small bladder and only starts to have some control over the bladder muscles when they are about 16 weeks old. It is better to use a crate with a separate area for a pee pad until the pup is old enough to hold it's urine for longer lengths of time. I hope things start going better for you two real soon.

This is a really sweet thread....I have two....Raelle is is 14mths old and is an absolute joy.....THEN....we have the holy terror, Orion...he is 11 months and polar opposite to his sister! Jumps on everyone(trying to figure out how to stop this)..barks his face off at anything that moves...getting there with the potty training.....as I type this he is bouncing from couch to chair over top of the cats, with a jump on my back in between....racing through the kitchen knocked over the gagbage, dug out one of my plants that i just re-potted..and knocked over the re-cycle bin! I'm tired just watchin this guy. My baby girl just looks at him like "really could you just chill out?" He has stlolen my heart though...just waiting for him to clam the "h" down...geez think im getting old! Have to wonder sometimes what in the world was i thinking? AND I'M LOOKING FOR NUMBER THREE!!!..yup im nuts!

Have you tried the GNC Ultra Mega Relax tablets? You can get them at PetSmart or online. They have calming herbs in them. Not high dosages which is what I was looking for. I give one to Beanie after we go for our morning walk and then I have to leave for work. I also give her one at night if she is really nuts after she eats, we walk and play. They actually do work.

Your boy sounds ultra hyper so these might help calm him down to just regular hyper!! Also, do you walk him a lot? I mean a lot. If I don't walk Beanie A LOT, she is nuts and misbehaves.

As far as the jumping goes, Beanie jumps too. The way to stop it is get a squirt bottle and fill it with water and EVERY time he jumps squirt him in the face. Plain water didn't work with Beanie, she thought it was fun to get squirted so the breeder told me to put some white vinegar in it. I KNOW that sounds harsh, but believe me it works like a charm. All I have to do is aim the bottle at her and she immediately stops whatever bad thing she is doing. Also, when he tries to jump on you or anyone in your house, life up your leg and bend it back, so there is nothing for him to jump on. You have to be consistent with that and make sure everyone does it.

It isn't good for Yorkies to jump all the time, it hurts their knees so it is better to curb it.

Oh boy, listen to me, the one who was here every day for a month freaking out that I could't do this and I was going to give her back, giving advice. ahahahahahahaha See all, it really, really DOES GET BETTER!!!

Start out with like almost full with water and a little vinegar. If that doesn't work, use more vinegar. I had to fill the bottle 2/3rd water and 1/3rd vinegar. There has to be enough vinegar for it to sting. Like I said, she actually thought it was fun to get squirted with the plain water. When I started with the vinegar, she smelled like a freakin salad for a couple of days. BUT, it stung her eyes enough that when she sees the red squirt bottle (get a bright colored bottle), she immediatly stops jumping. She might get all wiggly, wiggly but no jumping.

She still does jump when I can't get to the bottle in time, but I am trying to carry it with me. She jumps so hard that you can hear her back legs pounding on the floor and it is LOUD.

You really do need to curb it because Beanie did screw up her knees from all the jumping in the pen the first month I had her. She would start jumping the minute she heard me coming in the door downstairs. Of course, I couldn't get to her to squirt her until I got up the stairs and into the kitchen and she had already been jumping for a minute. I should never have used the ex-pen, but I had to contain her and I didn't want to squash her into a crate all day and then at night when she slept. I should have just blocked her off in the kitchen like I do now when I leave. But I was dealing with having to re potty train her (because I gave her the run of the house when I got her - BIG MISTAKE - it undid all the paper training she had) and I had to confine her to a small space again.

Anyway, I learned from my mistakes, but the jumping thing really isn't good and it is better to curb it right away or you will have bigger problems with bad knees, which I am afraid I now have even though she isn't showing any signs of being in pain because she is so young still. I am hoping her knees tighten up again.

Anyway, good luck with the vinegar!!

thank you so much!!! Orion does the same thing whenever he hears me coming...and I know what you mean it is really LOUD. I have mine confined to a large crate that a friend gave me, so almost the same as an ex-pen...made the same mistake as you gave them free run of the house... i still have the crate and they are blocked off in the kitchen....will definately try the vinegar....thanks again!
