There has to be enough vinegar for it to sting. Like I said, she actually thought it was fun to get squirted with the plain water. When I started with the vinegar, she smelled like a freakin salad for a couple of days. BUT, it stung her eyes enough that when she sees the red squirt bottle (get a bright colored bottle), she immediatly stops jumping. She might get all wiggly, wiggly but no jumping.
She still does jump when I can't get to the bottle in time, but I am trying to carry it with me. She jumps so hard that you can hear her back legs pounding on the floor and it is LOUD.
You really do need to curb it because Beanie did screw up her knees from all the jumping in the pen the first month I had her. She would start jumping the minute she heard me coming in the door downstairs. Of course, I couldn't get to her to squirt her until I got up the stairs and into the kitchen and she had already been jumping for a minute. I should never have used the ex-pen, but I had to contain her and I didn't want to squash her into a crate all day and then at night when she slept. I should have just blocked her off in the kitchen like I do now when I leave. But I was dealing with having to re potty train her (because I gave her the run of the house when I got her - BIG MISTAKE - it undid all the paper training she had) and I had to confine her to a small space again.
Anyway, I learned from my mistakes, but the jumping thing really isn't good and it is better to curb it right away or you will have bigger problems with bad knees, which I am afraid I now have even though she isn't showing any signs of being in pain because she is so young still. I am hoping her knees tighten up again.
Anyway, good luck with the vinegar!!
