| The only way I ever got a dog to stop doing THAT was to go outside with them and tell them "No! Leave It!" as they approached the "item of interest" & pointed accusingly at them, keeping eye contact with the dog until it backed off as I moved in. Then I would praise/treat with lots of happy talk & smiles as the dog moved away from the area. Then I would remove the "item", spray the area with Clorox Cleanup Spray(yes, even on grass) and we'd come back in the house, as I told the dog "Good Leave It". Eventually, any dog that had this problem decided it wasn't worth the trouble after a while & lost interest. I was always so proud the first time each dog I was training this way would start to go toward the stuff & then the training would kick in & it would turn away all on its own, looking to me for validation that it had done good. Of course, the dog always got validated - in spades!!!

| Ohhhh...I'm so sorry that as a Newbie you have already been exposed to such atrocities (Sugarmamma is to blame cuz she told you - remember that ). I'm sad to inform you that it is not as uncommon as you think, infact there are many here, some admit it and some skip right over such threads so as not to draw suspicions upon their precious "angels"...eventually, the truth comes out...trust me... (Pineapple, hopefully stops this poor confused pup from having such munchies...we pray...) I hope we aren't scaring you

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's not as crazy as it sounds; mama dogs lick the poop off the puppies to keep them clean. Dogs don't smell poop the way humans do, they smell each ingredient separately and if there’ s some undigested protein in the poop, they will be tempted to eat it. The reason pineapple works is that it has bromelain in it, it’s the same thing found in many meat tenderizers and this “predigests” the protein, making it easier for the dog to digest all the protein, so that there will be no protein left in the poop and the dog won’t see it as nourishing. You can also use a meat tenderizer, but so many of them contain salt, and the dog doesn’t need the additional salt. Not sure of the amount, but I know many people used canned pineapple, and I’ve heard that 2-3 chunks work. Some people say less than a tablespoon works. Undigested protein isn't the only reason some dogs eat poop, so do it out of bordom, so pineapple wouldn't work. Since she's still a puppy, I think she might outgrow this habit.

| Unfortunately I am all too familiar with corporophagia! My Burnese auss shepp cross had this habit for the entire span of his 13.5 years! NOTHING I did stopped him but... then he wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack! Lovable but dumb. Never, ever heard of pineapple! Sure wish I had! Good luck!! |

| I've tried pineapple, meat tenderizer, spinach, anything that says "stops coprophagia" on the bottle and nothing works. I even tried switching food. Max knows the leave-it command but I have to be there to tell him. He purposely poops in the house in a very quiet spot when I'm not looking just so he can eat it. And yes, he's potty trained. He does this to be a bad boy on purpose. He knows it's wrong because after he does it he goes and sits in his time-out kennel!
