| Visitor etiquette? We will be visiting my boyfriend's family tomorrow and Sunday and Luma LOVES strangers, but I want to ask them to please sweep and vaccuum the rooms she will be in. She will eat anything she finds on the floor. Do y'all think this is rude to ask? She will be visiting three different houses.

| I understand how one worries, but I would be offended if someone asked me to do that. I would put a leash on her and keep her within your sight at all times.

YES!!! As a guest in someone else's home it is your responsibility to make sure your dog doesn't get into anything. I'd suggest you bring a leash, crate, and/or portable pen.

| Hehe, I get the consensus! Dumb question I guess. I just know at his Mom's house we'll all be in the kitchen and she can run around as she pleases. There are also two little girls, 5 and 7, at his moms house and I worry they will hurt her on accident. And we wish we could introduce her to his best friend but he has a very angry schnauzer... Oh well. Thanks for your input.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I love the answers and agree with them, I do think it's sending the wrong message if you ask them to sweep. If you feel like it's a big problem, your boyfriend should ask the grandparents, it will go over better.

| to funny I think the same way but would never say it. I am pretty up tight about cleaning and normally can't start the day unless everything is picked up, swept and in it's place, so I totally get it. One time I had the sweetest friend that was going to watch one of my yorkies for about a week and I knew he would get good care and attention. Since he could not be trusted she was going to put pee pads in her guest bathroom when she had to leave which would only be for a few hours at a time. When I dropped him off I used the bathroom and the floor was pretty dirty with dust bunnies everywhere. I was horrified that I would have to leave him in such a dirty place. So I grabbed tissues and toilet paper and started cleaning the floor and the woodwork. However that being said it was my little secret and I mentioned nothing to her. Believe me you DO NOT want to tell anyone they must clean the floors before your dog comes over, in most instances you just need to be lucky they allow it. I have seen people with very dirty houses not allow dogs to come inside. Like the poster before me said, just keep your dog close at hand, on a leash, or in your lap until you are sure of the conditions, you could always turn the tables and say you don't trust him in strange places and so forth, or that he is prone to chewing and at this stage you prefer to keep a close watch on him.

| I totally agree. I would never ask someone else, even if I was close to them, to sweep or vacuum their home before I arrive with my puppy. Just like I wouldn't like if someone asked me to put my dog away while they come over. It just wouldn't happen, so I wouldn't expect someone else to accommodate me in such a way either.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh lucky them, it's not the work involved, it's the idea that you think the rooms need sweeping.

| I think it would be rude to ask. If I take Callie to a house besides my moms and my aunts who both have dogs and don't hold the door open and leave stuff laying around I take her pop up play pen and she is either in the play pen or on her leash. There is just to many things they can get into or someone could leave the door open not something I would risk.

| If someone called me and asked me that I would be offended. My response would be, to leave your dog home, or if you keep track of him/her. My dog is like my child, it is my responsibility to look after him when he is not in my home. |
