| Male Puppy smells like pee Within a day of giving him a bath my male yorkie 5 month old will smell like pee. I have tried trimming around his penis where he grows lots of hair. it's kind of annoying to have to keep that area trim. it grows right on the tip He's a yorkie mix so his hair is a bit different than a normal yorkie, but he looks very yorkieish |

| I have two males and I keep one of them in a puppy coat to decrease the chances of him getting his aim wrong and peeing on his coat. Do you keep your male's coat short? I find that this helps. I also trim the hair on their penises when I give them their sanitary haircuts. Many people believe that keeping the hair on the tip is good because it directs the pee downward, but this tuft of hair will then smell like pee. I like to keep it trimmed completely - it's really not a hassle once you're used to it.

| Bubba, has bad aim. He gets it on his legs, belly and in the winter on coat. When his hair is short it isn't too much of a problem, just a daily wipe with Buggie Wipes.

| I use baby wipes after potty time. My Abba and Rubin smell good. No pee smell. I do keep them in a sanitary clip.

| I always kept my Yorkie-Poo closely and neatly trimmed......about 1/8"...which only takes a few seconds with scissors at bath time, but Brody was kept, when I got him, with a bit of hair hanging downward directly from the tip and I have trimmed it a little shorter than they had it but left it there...about 1/4" - 1/2" long. The hair does actually curve downward toward the ground. The way Brody pushes his little hips downward and forward to pee, the stream goes in a perfect little downward arc and lands on the ground in a perfect mid-body place that keeps him clean all the way around...body, chest, legs, and paws, and he knows to step around, over, and away from his puddle. My Yorkie-Poo lifted his leg...he was unaltered...so never had issues peeing on paws unless it was running downhill onto his feet, but Brody doesn't lift a leg or anything when he pees...it looks more like he is just stretching to sniff at something just out of nose-reach and if you didn't know he was peeing, you wouldn't unless you paid close attention. Have you watched him when he pees to see what happens...how he gets the pee 'smell' on him...and where ? Maybe, if you knew that, you could adjust his clip or something to prevent anything getting on him when he pees. I am not opposed to wiping and cleaning them after they potty, but I prefer them to stay as clean as possible in these areas without human intervention being necessary whenever possible. Oh, and if the stream is hitting other tummy or chest hair that hangs lower, clip that hair so it doesn't hang in the way and get wet when he pees. If he's just got a strong and proud stream and is hosing down his legs and paws, you're probably gonna need wipes every time. Good luck.

Trouble is, he aims beautifully onto the grass...cocking his leg and looking at me to say 'good pee-pee'.....and then turns round and runs straight through it!!! So now we wipe his paws as well! Sally + Harry x | |

| As always thanks to everyone for your input it helps so much. Perhaps my little buddy just has bad aim. Maybe I do have to trim him differently and pay closer atention to him when he pees. As far as his pee string it's just those hairs I guess at the end of his penis. They kind of form a pointy string and that must guide the pee. I don't know if that's what the problem is, but I have been trimming it. Thank you for that link as well. I'll keep trying different things because It's very important for me to keep a clean dog. I'm also going to give him quick wipes more often with water and a rag as some said. |

| Is he paper trained or does he go outside. My last mail that was paper trained would often walk through his puddle leaving pee paw prints on my floor then he would lick himself clean, yuck. I would try to catch him peeing so I could pick him up, but with an inside dog it is often hard to catch them. My current one goes outside and is a female she often turns around and leans way over to smell it. So in between baths I use a face cloth and wash her muzzle area. If you are with him when he goes wipe him off immediately and try using a face cloth between baths. I also have a mix, she is half pom, what's yours mixed with?

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Well I am not a Momma to a boy Yorkie, but what we do is use what we call 'woo woo wipes' almost every time we see Katie Scarlett visit the pad. I get these pet wipes that are deoderizing and give her a good wipe down there. She has pretty much come to expect it now. She will go visit the pad, come find me, and give me that 'hey, a little service here' look. It keeps her smelling great! Of course, I know wiping down there a lot may not be for everyone. I am a housewife so I am around all of the time, but maybe he could be wiped down there once a day or something to help out? Or if it gets really bad, a quick butt bath. I have done that a few times. Just bath from their midriff down to freshen up.

| I agree. Helps to not get any mats down there too. Our 14yr. old is in diapers and I always clean her whether it is tee tee or poo poo. I need to start cleaning the other 3 too. I even clean her pads when I clean her little hynie. |
