| He needs a coat! Hi all! Amazon.com: Pet Life Metallic Dog Parka Small... I'm in love with this coat, but conflicted on whether to get a xsm or small. My puppy is 18 weeks old, born in October. He is roughly 4 lb...maybe less since we buzzed hair off. I did measure base of neck to base of tail and he is approx. 10-11 inches. (hard to get a good measurement when he keeps sitting down) Not really sure where the coat should hit on his back? And although he seems long and more like a small according to the website measurements he is tiny/scrawney overall. Again this is probably because his hair is short. Would you all get a xsm or small? Has anyone purchased a Pet Life brand coat? I'm sure he will continue to grow. Dad was 4 lb...mom a few lbs heavier. I would hate to get something he grows right out of, but also know how small yorkies are and this may be a coat for a more bulky dog. 8" - Extra Small 10-12" - Small Thank you soooooooooooooo much. |

| Well, call me a wimp , but i can't tell you what size to get cause if its wrong ...... But in my opinion i think the coat should at least go to the base of his tail. If he is 10 to 11 inches long from the base of his neck to his butt then an 8 in coat would maybe be a bit short. If the 10 to 12 in is a little too big he would grow into it. If you are not sure it may be easier to go to the pet store and try on a similar size and see how it fits.... Good luck |

| Well........ he's still a baby so he'll most likely grow a bit more. Belle was 16 weeks old when she came to live with us last Feb, and weighed 3lbs 8oz. We bought her an xs coat and it was a little big for her then. Now, it's too small, she's between 5.5 and 6 lbs now, and from neck to tail is about 9.5 inches. So, if you buy him a coat now that fits him perfectly, it will probably be too small next season and you'll need to get another one. Maybe get the small, so he can grow into it?

| I've had some not-so-good experiences with buying online. I would also consider the girth when buying. Does the company list a girth size too? It seems like a lot of brands are very different in their sizing. My problem has been that either the length fits but the girth is way too large or the girth fits and the length is too short. It may be something for you to consider. Maybe give the website a call?

| Very good points, everyone. I haven't seen any coats at the store locally to try. Yes internet shopping can be tricky. I do have free two day shipping through Amazon though just would have to pay return shipping if needed. The company does not list girth. I'll dig further and make a call if I can find a number. I do own a sewing machine, but don't know how to use it. Could/should learn. Small sounds the way to go lengthwise. Thank you. |
