Yep... on both counts!

I would not be with a man who did not love my pups as much as I do. I don't expect anyone to change for me and I am sure as heck not going to change for them.

And, actually I did have a pup who did that.

I think he really just wanted to get on the bed but it was odd.

Makes you think that some of these men may do this to be "controlling". Man, I sure am glad DH knows I am the boss.

If I had kept count over the years of how many women have turned their pups into rescue because of their husbands/boyfriends you seriously would not believe it. A whole lot more than you can imagine. It is actually a very common reason for surrenders.

It absolutely IS controlling and in my way of thinking a disaster in the making in terms of a relationship.

People need to take off the rose colored glasses when they meet people and take a GOOD look at them and definitely pay close attention to the red flags.

When I saw the title of your post, the first thing that came to my mind was "dump him." Sorry, I am animal lover. Never let our cats or Sheltie sleep in our bed. However, Jack does not shed and he smells good, plus he's small and kind of runs the roost around here.... so, yea.... It's the dog(s) or nothing. Good luck though!

I will tell you my side from both ends....Years ago (before I was an animal lover OMG) I dated a guy with two cats. I'm still not crazy about cats, but, that's another story. Anyway, I'm a HORRIBLE sleeper to begin with and always made him kick the cats out of the double bed. He did it for me, and was horrified if some nights he didn't want to. Man did I get p!ssed.

Fast forward years later (Baby is almost 6 1/2). She has been in bed with me since day one. I've dated one guy seriously who wasn't crazy about her in the bed. I gave him this look like, "Yeah, what's your point?" He got the idea! I tried to make sure that Baby stayed on my side of the bed even though HE was on HER side of the bed! Sometimes I'd wake up and she'd be by his face. Man he didn't like that! LOL O well, too bad! Needless to say we didn't last (not b/c of the dog by any means). And if I put "Baby in the corner" and made her sleep elsewhere, I couldn't forgive myself. We come as a package. Love me, love my dog! And, he really didn't love her. That should have been my first clue right there.

As for how I feel now about my ex and his cats. I can't believe my behavior back then. As I said, I was not an animal person. I couldn't understand the love between man and animal. I can't believe he actually kicked the cats out of bed for me! My behavior was ridiculous, and I'd never do that again.

In conclusion, make your new guy understand that your babies were around before him and will be after him. You will try your best to keep them on your side of the bed. Now, one thing I DO get. If you want to "do" something, then kick them out for a bit. hehe But time for sleep, they come back in!

I agree!! I now couldn't imagine going to sleep without my little guys tucked beneath each of my arms.... My hubby is there too... And he loves ours boys as much as I do. Your new bf needs to get to know your babies and see they aren't just "dogs", but love them because you do and for the wonderful furkids that they are!!

Boy friends come and go but dogs should stay forever. My daughter made the mistake of hooking up with a guy who pretended to like her animals at first. Later on into the relationship he started giving her a hard time about her pets especially when they had a disagreement. If you love your pets and he does not have the same respect for them you have then step back and take the hint. You are not compatible. Your dogs were there first and if this guy is not on the same page with you concerning your pets then you need to rethink what you are doing. If he is already telling you where your pets can and cannot sleep you can bet he is going to be trying to change your life in other ways. If he really cared about you he would not be trying to impose his will on your life.

Young women put too much importance on having a relationship with a guy without regard to their differences. It always ends up in constant disagreements and stress. Do yourself a favor and wait until you find someone who enjoys the same pass times and interests as you. It will save you a lot of pain later on.
