When I saw the title of your post, the first thing that came to my mind was "dump him." Sorry, I am animal lover. Never let our cats or Sheltie sleep in our bed. However, Jack does not shed and he smells good, plus he's small and kind of runs the roost around here.... so, yea.... It's the dog(s) or nothing. Good luck though!
