| Question about taking my yorkie to the Dominican My DH is always saying that although he likes dogs he isnt really attached to them (we have two dogs, a 14yr old schnoodle and 2yr old Yorkie) He teases me because of how much I love my dogs and Chloe is particular. We are going to the Dominican in February and I have been trying to make arrangements for the dogs while we are away. George will be staying with my brother but Chloe being such a princess needs so much more care (and would drive my brother crazy lol) and I have been struggling with the thought of leaving her behind. So two days ago my DH said out of the blue "I was thinking that maybe we can take Chloe with us" I was shocked! It never occoured to me that taking her was an option. I was sure that he would have thought that it would have been a MAJOR buzz kill to have her with us. So it appears that he isnt as aloof as he pretends to be. Chloe always follows me around the house and all during the day she is my little shadow but as soon as we go to bed she has to be curled up right beside him. She "tortures" him by licking his face and jumping up on him while he tries to sleep and he never gets upset. He plays with her and I had thought that she had worked her way into his heart but now I know she has So long story short lol... Has anyone brought a furbaby with them to an all inclusive?? I am wondering about the flight too as there are no seats left so am I allowed to keep her on my lap? I took my child on a plane at age 13 months and she was free as she shared my seat as per the airlines policy. Did you have to pay for bringing your dog on the plane? There is NO WAY that I would take Chloe unless she travelled with me during the flight. Also is there anything that I need to consider if I bring her with us? Thanks for any help you can offer as I try to figure this out. If I can find a way to bring her with me it would make this a perfect trip. I was really going to miss my little furbaby and knowing that my DH wants to bring her is wonderful. |

| The all inclusive resorts I have been to would never allow dogs. Not everyone loves them and wouldn't want to deal with doggie issues. Kinda like young kids - if you go to an adult only resort- there is a reason. We are also going to the DR this year - where are you staying? We're going to the Hard Rock. Anyway, I didn't know what to do with my pup either but having someone house/petsit is what we did and it was great to keep Brutus in his own environment.

| Thats what I am hoping to do. It would be so much better to have someone stay here. I have asked a close friend and I am hoping that she will be able to. I have never been able to travel and the trip is a gift from my father in law Finding the right option for Chloe is so difficult as of course she is an important part of the family and I want to make sure that she is well cared for while we are away. We are going to the Gran Bahia Principe from February 17th to the 23rd. Where is the Hard Rock? And did you have a friend house/petsit? |

| I would totally take her, but I dont think they let them sit in the seating area in the plane :/ Also, just call the resort & ask if they are pet friendly. You might have to pay a deposit or something.

| The Hard Rock is in Punta Cana. If you have never been to an all inclusive, you will have a blast - the days just go to fast! Yes, I had a family friend stay at our house. Brutus isn't crate trained so boarding him wasn't an option. We took my son on our last trip in Dec., so I was really at a loss of what to do. Luckily my son still lives at home attending college, so he will be here for our next vacation. Hope your friend is able to stay so you won't worry and enjoy yourself!

| I don't know about your resort, other than my brother stayed there last year and it is absolutely beautiful, but I do know about the plane. First of all you have to make a pet reservation in cabin with the airline you will be flying with. They only allow a certain number of pets in cabin. Yes there is a pet fee for flying. The cost depends on the airline you are travelling with. We are leaving Friday to fly to Key West for the winter and we are travelling with American Airlines. We paid 150$ each way for her to travel with us. When she is flying with us she has to be in an airline approved carry on usually a soft sided one. They must remain under the seat in front of you at all times never on your lap. That being said, last year Bella decided to be a real little b...tch on our flight to Miami and I had to take her out of her bag. I put her on my knee and covered her with my blanket. All went well after that but I didn't get caught. If I had, she would have to go back into the bag. You also have to have all her health records up to date, not that I have ever been asked on the plane, just customs. Your pet bag also counts as one piece of your carry on allowance. | Bringing Pets into the Dominican Republic It is relatively easy to bring your dog(s) or cat(s), but it is not recommended to bring birds for a short visit, as they will need to be quarantined for a period of time. Some airlines do not transport pets at all, or if they do, may have limitations on the number they will carry, the size (weight) and periods of time when pet transport is permitted (many do not during summer due to higher temperatures). It is advisable to make your arrangements with the specific airline you plan to take, early, to identify any size/weight restrictions, requirements, and costs, before you purchase your flight with that airline. If you decide to bring your pet(s), please ensure the accommodations you secure for your visit allow pets on their premises. Also be aware that in some of the tourist destinations there may be stray animals, particularly dogs. If you are in fear of your pet being around stray animals, it may be wise to have your pet looked after at home during your visit. If this is not a concern, please be aware of the following requirements to bring dog(s) or cat(s) into the Dominican Republic: A Veterinarian's certificate of vaccination against rabies , issued at least 30 days prior to entry into the Dominican Republic. A Veterinarian's certificate of health issued within 14 days of arrival into the Dominican Republic. If the above requirements are not met, your pet may be held in quarantine for up to 30 days, depending on your country of origin. Upon arrival at any Dominican Republic Airport, ask for the Animal Control Person ('Sanidad Animal' in Spanish). This person will review your Veterinarian certificates and fill in the official pet entry permission form required at a cost of approximately US $10. |

| Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana is reported to be pet friendly, but we haven't called to confirm the details of their pet policy. You can call the hotel directly at 809-552-1444 for more information. |

| I missed out on a trip to an all-inclusive in Punta Cana with friends last March, as I'd just got ZoE at the end of January and didn't want to leave her. It would be awesome if you got to take Chloe. I'd inquire if there's any local doggie daycare in case you want to sightsee or have a night out with the hubby. Are you flying direct or do you have to change planes, cos that is where the flying fees rack up for taking your pup. This summer my whole family is going back to England for 3 weeks and we'll be traveling alot while there visiting friends & family throughout England & Scotland. I'm not sure whether to try to take ZoE or not. *As an aside, I see you're in Hamilton. I'm just outside your sister city of Flint, MI. My son played golf in the CANUSA games and he visited Hamilton when the games where held there and we had fellow golfers from Hamilton stay with us when the games were in Flint

| Travling with our furbabies is great and fun. But going to the Dominican is not a good idea with your baby, not on a short visit. Get a good friend or find a place she can stay. Go enjoy your time with DH and came back and bring something special for your furbabies. I'm a ret flight attend and been to Dominican and if you really want to enjoy your self you need to keep the furbabies at home. A lot of the nice restaurant have restriction on pets. Plus I'm sure you will love to enjoy the beautiful beaches. And if you do go and take your beautiful furbabie with you please do not take her out in the cabin of the airplane, you need to wait to take her out. Also get ready to have everyone triing to touch a cute yorkie. Have a great time post pictures :')

| I went to the Dominican a year a 1/2 ago, and wouldn't take my dog. Of course, we were on the Haiti border and stayed in tents and worked in one of the lesser hospitals delivering babies. All I saw of the island was filth and trash. I am hoping your resort area is nicer than that.
