| ![]() Welcome to you and your beautiful little Kiwi ![]() Talk to your vet about your fears for her being spayed and that should help you decide. I was leery when my two got done, but the vet answered all of my questions and concerns, did pre op blood work, and used Isoflourane for the surgery. They both came out very well and were wanting to run and play the next day ![]() Good luck ![]()

| ![]() I don't think we can say this too much but Kiwi is adorable. I talked to 3 vets about a good time to have Sissy spayed (had to travel to 3 different towns to get 3 vets) One said 6 months the other 2 said 5 months so I split the difference and did it at almost 7 moths lol. All 3 said that though it used to be thought that waiting until after 1 heat was best, they now know that there is no need. If your vet is comfortable with Kiwi's weight then she should be fine. As everyone else has said, ask questions and let the vet erasure you. I had a chihuahua that I couldn't get spayed because of a heart murmur, she never had a litter and she passed on at 14 from a mamory tumor. So the alternative to not getting her spayed is very dangerous. My bet is that the worse that will happen from the operation is a few more grey hairs for Mom. ![]() |

| ![]() Do the blood work. Pick a vet who is experienced with spaying small dogs. Choose the vet you feel will give your baby the best care. Be sure to ask who will be watching her after recovery-if they want her over night will there be 24 hours care-really why would they not send her home if no one is there to watch her why any vet's still do this is so illogical. Also I highly recommend a Kiss-E Cone from Hotrod's Mom. If her not haivng a heat is prior to spay is critical to you then do it sooner than later she is over 2 #, it's under 2# PEOPLE are most concerned with.

| ![]() Thanks to you ALL for your suggestions and advice. I do feel so much better. I'll have the preop bloodwork done and see what more the veterinarian has to say Tuesday. Also, will make sure they are using isoflurane. I'll post more after this exam just in case it helps anyone else out there having to make this tough decision. She is the most wonderful little girl in the world (to me), and having her in my life has just been the biggest blessing. The turds and puddles (we're working on it!), the eye boogers, the "I will eat nothing but freeze-dried not frozen Stella and Chewy's so don't dare run out," and the torn up papers all over just bring me smiles. Oh, and the ankle biting when I walk through the house--how I would miss that! My kids are grown now, and she's my new kid. I spend more money on her clothes, hair doodas, food, and shampoos than I do myself (don't tell my husband!). I guess I'm completely twitterpated, as are all of you poor souls. Thanks again to everyone ![]() |
