| Is my Yorkie a Yorkie?? I bought my Yorkie at a large flea market when he was about a year old. I didn't buy him because he was a Yorkie and the fact that he was registered didn't matter one way or another to me (although I did realize that the papers were not from one of the large well-known breeding clubs). However, in the 3 years that I've had him, several people have asked me...including one Yorkie owner...what kind of dog he is. I always tell them he's a Yorkie (that's what I was told, that's what his papers say, and he looks like Yorkies in books and online). But the other day, a dog trainer at a local petstore asked me if he's an Australian terrier. I told her no but came home and googled the breed. Guess what! My baby looks almost exactly like those pictures! But when I google Yorkies, he looks like those pictures, too!! Is it possible that I don't own a Yorkie?? How could I find out? Obviously it won't change how I feel about him but I would like to know for sure. |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Could you post pix? That would help. I can see a small pix on your avatar, but I cannot tell. I am a newbie though and may not be the best help. But I know you'll get lots off good help on here. YT'ers are great! From what I can tell in the pic though, he is a cutie pie either way!

| I can't see the pic but my best guess would be a Silky! Australian Silky Terrier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| did a little research... LOL The plot thickens! I did research the 2 (Australian and Yorkie) and he doesn't have an undercoat, so that rules out the Australian....I think.... I need to get a good full-body shot of him (AND master the art of posting pics here). Thanks for your thoughts. Last edited by Reita; 10-16-2011 at 11:21 AM. |

| What is cotton coat? Lucas has wiry fur, sheds very little, and it hasn't grown hardly at all for as long as we've had him. I had planned on keeping his fur short anyways but haven't had to make that decision! And yes, he looks like all 3 of the dogs mentioned in this thread except that he only has a single layer of fur and his chest is rather narrow and not that deep. |

| Yep. That's the place. And since I bought him cuz I fell in love with him, it didn't matter...until ppl started asking me about it, which made me curious. My daughter mentioned DNA testing today and it's something we might look into. At any rate, yorkie or silky or aussie or mixed, he's definitely my baby! LOL |

| A DNA kit from JEFFERS is only 50.00. If you are interested you can go online or call the 800 number and order a PET catalog. 1-800-JEFFERS and ask for the PET catalog or www.jefferspet.com
