| New Puppy-Curious About Weight and More I recently got my puppy, Felicity. We call her Fi Fi for short. She is so cute. I'll post her pic soon. We paid $800 for her. It seemed kind of a lot to me. But after reading some of the other posts maybe it's mid range. The thing is she is exactly 11 weeks and is a little chubby at 3lbs 4oz. The breeder told me she would be around 5lbs and the vet told me 7lbs. If she's going to keep growing at this rate, I'm a little concerned. My grandma has a yorkie, Sergeant Clyde. He's 5 yrs old and she is already bigger than him. Am I going to end up with an oversized (more than 7 lbs) Yorkie. Is there a such thing as a Yorkie that big? - they're not breed standard and I was wondering if such bigger dogs could be Silky Terriers in diguise as yorkies? Fi Fi is a wild thing but even if she ends up the size of a Great Dane we'll still love her. Though, I am a little disappointed that she may end up so big. Could I be overfeeding her? I have looked online, asked the vet, the breeder and books about how much to feed her and no one gives me a straight answer. The vet says that he's just happy that she's and eater, but I don't want to overfeed her either. Any suggestions? |

| Well at twelve weeks you double the weight and that gives you an estimate of what thei weight will be. Sounds like shes gonna be closer to 7 lbs. Thats a good weight and its not too big at all. I have a nine lb yorkie and he still looks small.

| This is my first puppy - I had kittys before and I have always wanted a little dog because my grandma always had little dogs while we were growing up. I guess the weight sounds like more than what it really is. |

| You're yorkie in the blue sweater on the website you listed looks remarkably similar to Fifi - do you have any idea when her colors will start to change? |

| Thanks thats Chachi he is a camera ham. Hes the one that is 9lbs now. He was a small 1 lb when I brought him home. All dogs colors change at different times. Both my dogs were about 3 months when they started to change. My female had a break of white on her head that changed to tan. Their backs have gradually gotten this gray color underneath their black.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Sounds like FiFi my be around 7 lbs. I've heard of yorkies getting up to 18 lbs and that's an AKC yorkie...not a silkie.

| Fifi has the white hair coming in on her head, too. I was wondering about that. She has spots of golden. Off topic, but totally cute. I was preparing Thanksgiving dinner and a piece of raw sweet potato fell on the ground and the little thief took off with it before I even knew. I went into the living and there she was having her own little feast. |

| I found that to be true as well. We knew the breeder, so we had our pick. The Yorkie we originally picked out was much smaller, but the day we went to pick him up she noticed that he wasn't walking and he had to go to the vet - later we found out that he required surgery that cost around $1000. She sold the rest of her litter and the remaining two from another litter for 1$1450 each. Most of the Yorkies she breeds are of a smaller size, but she is careful not to inbread, so genetic anomalies may vary the size of each puppy. That's why we though Fifi was going to be around 5lbs and the orginally puppy we picked out was supposed to be 3lbs. But I think no one can really know for sure. I've seen were the runt of the litter can grow to bigger than the rest is properly fed. I was curious about the growth rate as well. I guess they have growth spurts, but when do you know when they are as big as they are going to get? |

| I believe your yorkie will be of the larger variety, which isn't a bad thing. I have one larger and one smaller and the larger one is easier to deal with. Most breeders will not say what the expected weight will be, unless it is a range. My Chloe's parents were 4 lbs and Chloe is 7lbs. |

| I'm not convinced that anyone can predict the size of the pup at all. We have two little guys. Their mom weighed 5 lbs and their dad weighed 3 lbs. The breeder thought they would weigh somewhere in the range of 3-5 lbs. When we took them home at 12 weeks old, one of them weighed 2.5 lbs and the other weighed 1.5 lbs. Now, fully grown, they both weigh 6.5 lbs. So, the double the weight at 12 weeks rule didn't work, and predicting their weights based on what their parents weigh didn't work, either! I'm sure by the time your little one is fully grown, you won't really care. We're so in love with our boys that I don't care if they weigh 5 lbs or 50 lbs - they're part of the family now.

| My Dolce is 3.5 lbs at his 4 month check up. But he is pretty chubby. My Vet said he should be his adult weight at 6 months. I leave food in his bowl at all times which may explain him being chubby. He is all tummy..LOL He also has had his share of turkey... Which he loves. I rarely if ever feed him people food. Our breeder said he should be around 5 lbs. Which I think should be accurate due to Dolce being so chubby. Either way I love my little baby
