| My Coco is a night owl - help! Hi all. For the past few weeks, My 8 mo old Coco wants to play late at night and barks constantly until I get out of bed to deal with her (she's my baby so I deal eith it). I know I shouldn't pay any attention to her when she gets like this, but the barking wakes everyone in the flat and has to be annoying to my neighbors as well. I suspect she spends the day sleeping when we're at work, but we interact with her as soon as we get home, so she gets at least 4-5 hours of love and play, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm exhausted and need to find a solution. Has anyone experienced this with their baby? Thanks. |

| Take her for long walks when you get home and then play with her. She's not getting enough exercise and puppies have lots of energy to burn. Yorkies, in general, are usually high-energy and that usually lasts throughout their lives.

| Try going for a walk. Also she barks because she knows its working I suggest when she starts barking take her potty and then put her back in her bed and go to bed and ignore her.

| I agree with the long walk suggestion. My boy is almost 4 and still has the energy of a puppy. If he doesn't get a ton of exercise, he starts acting out and barking at me. Long walks, a trip to the dog park, or vigorous games of fetch down our long hallway when I get home works for us. |

| Sometimes you just have to put your foot down, so to speak. As a pup, I'd obviously take Jackson outside whenever I even THOUGHT he had to go. But once he got older, I can tell when he's just wanting to play or be whiny and when he truly has to potty, etc. Anyways, still, if Jackson wakes up too early and I KNOW he can hold it (he's known to sleep until 10-11am, LOL) with me, I'll just snap my fingers and tell him to lay back down and he comes back to bed. Not in a mean way but just not giving him his way. Same thing with late at night, if he just wanting to get out of the room to do something else, I tell him lay down, and if that doesn't work, I just ignore.

| Doggie Day Care is a great idea. We go twice a month and would go more if we weren't teachers adn could afford it haha. The walks are an excellent idea, and instead of just doing them in the night, try doing them in the am as well. That way she'll be up and running in the morning and hopefully sleeping less while you are away. Also, if you have an interactive toy you can put with her in her crate that might help. |

| Mine are 7 months and wake me up every day at 4-4:30 (they are my babies so like you I deal with it). In fairness to the pups, I am a light sleeper and tend to start tossing and turning around this time. We play until I go to work at 7. They play pretty hard and non-stop. I take them for a nice walk in the mornings and they are usually ready for a nap by the time I leave. I have a dog sitter that comes by for an hour every day to play with them mid-day. I recently got the small kong tennis ball and football (with squeaker). I end up throwing the balls for about an hour or two every night. They love to chase it and bring it back. Well, Abby brings it back, Max just likes to chase Abby when she gets it. Between the Kong balls and their chewy's they are usually ready for bed by 9-9:30. I recently found some hoofs and bully sticks that are odor free - they love them. I check the hoofs frequently to make sure nothing is splintering off. Our pre-bed routine usually takes about a half an hour, so lights out be 10 most nights. Needless to say, I have really learned to enjoy my Saturday siesta's. Hope your little guys settles down a little bit. My previous Yorkie (Poppy) was pretty active for the first two years and then she started to calm down. Once I let her sleep in my bed with me (at about 9 months old) she slept thru the night and even let me sleep in. |

| It's difficult isn't it when there are other people in the flat/neighbours to consider? And sound really travels in the dead of night!! Was wondering, can you afford a dog-walker for an hour a day at lunchtime-ish? That might break up the day for all of you! Sally + Harry x |

| My Chloe has the very same problem! I try to do all I can to get her to play during the day. She seems to be less aggressive during the day and wants to be lazy, but come 8 pm she's a live wire. My husband and I both aggressively play with her for a couple hours to get her to use up some of that energy. She would get to where she would bark all night, and I'd get up with her because my husband has to have his rest for his long days at work. This got old fast, so I started putting her to bed and either sitting and watching her or laying in bed where I could see her crate. Everytime she whined or barked I would say NO.....and tell her to go night night....after a few nights of this...we can now put her to bed on our schedule and if she fights it a little I tell her to go to sleep and she goes. |

| Absolutely, exercise! If Pita doesn't get enough she will let us know. Try playing fetch, that works well if it's raining and you are stuck indoors. Pita will fetch her ball a hundred when I throw it across the living room or down the hall. Plus, now she sleeps in our bed, so she really has nothing to complain about Good luck! |
