Sometimes you just have to put your foot down, so to speak. As a pup, I'd obviously take Jackson outside whenever I even THOUGHT he had to go. But once he got older, I can tell when he's just wanting to play or be whiny and when he truly has to potty, etc. Anyways, still, if Jackson wakes up too early and I KNOW he can hold it (he's known to sleep until 10-11am, LOL) with me, I'll just snap my fingers and tell him to lay back down and he comes back to bed. Not in a mean way but just not giving him his way. Same thing with late at night, if he just wanting to get out of the room to do something else, I tell him lay down, and if that doesn't work, I just ignore.
