| My Tatiana has been designated as a service/emotional support animal by my doctor. He did it with a letter, which I show people. So far, Tatiana has gained access with no problems. Incidentally, I have Tatiana in a purse/pet carrier. Perhaps that's why people were lenient about granting Tatiana access? As far as Tatiana gaining access to a medical facility, my doctor wrote out A PRESCRIPTION (like off his prescription pad) for Tatiana to be allowed in the hospital with me. However, this was at the hospital he practiced at. I have not visited other hospitals (yet). I don't know if his prescription would work at other medical facilities. Incidentally, my doctor is a very important doctor at his hospital. The staff (and security guards) take one look at the prescription (with my doctor's name, license #, etc), and Tatiana is granted access, no questions asked. It helps if your doctor has clout. I hope this helps. |

| Hoping your father is well/improving. I don't know anything about US laws, cause I'm Canadian, but I definitely would not go away quietly. First I know any country is very proud of their veterans and it's a disgrace that you were treated poorly, second, a service dog is a service dog. I would contact any higher up you can find in the hospital, the gov't people who register service dogs, and someone also within the military. Good luck, go fight for the rights of these wonderful service animals! Honestly if you start screaming discrimination, you'll likely get attention, no one wants a discrimination lawsuit. Keep us posted.

| I hope your Dad is doing better. I'm sorry you had to go thru this. There has to be a way to get the word out to hospitals, etc. regarding service dogs. Maybe letter writing or sending e-mails. |

| So sorry that happened. I recently met a lady on a plane who had a miniature poodle that was a service dog. She is prone to seizure and the dog alerts her to take her medication when she senses the seizures coming on. I have no idea how these little angels do it, but they do. The owner rescued the poodle and then her husband noticed that the poodle did the same thing before every seizure. It is the only time she will give kisses on the mouth - takes people a little longer to figure out when help is right under our noses - literally. Service dogs are a wonderful asset to the lives of people they help. I am glad you have a "little" service dog to help you with your PTSD. I think this would make a great public interest story for your local media. It would be a great way to educate the community and help get the word out that service dogs are not just big dogs. Hang in there. |

On a side note. (My ptsd is not service related) I just wanted to clarify that. I didn't go into detail last night cause I was so stressed out. It happens to be a coincidence that I am a veteran w/ it.

| I'm sorry this happened to you. I know here that every time you use the hospital they send out a survey. This would be a good way of getting the info to them.

| I'm so sorry you were treated poorly. It's such a shame. Thank you for serving our country. You are the same age as I am (21) and I can't even imagine living through what you have. My commends to you. I hope you get this all straightened out. Kaos is such a handsome little guy and I can imagine the joy he brings to your life! What a good little service dog. Ya know, it's reasons like yours that make me so mad at the people who fake to have service dogs just so they can get in places w/ them... they don't realize they are ruining it for the people who REALLY need it!!!

I think your story would be a great dog interest story and would bring the subject of service dogs to the attention of others. I have met a lot of ignorant people (not stupid, just not educated) who all assume service dogs have to be labs or golden retrievers. You have to do what is best for you. I wish you all the best and hope your father is doing much better. Hang in there! | |

| hi I also have a service dog. I wondered if the tags on your dog is all you use for ID purposes? I have a service dog vest with patches and also have little buisness sized cards that has all the legal rights from the ADA i can pass out in case their is any trouble . i have no trouble with taking my dog anywhere. I am very surprised the hospital gave you such a hard time! I would definatley follow up on it , that was discrmination for sure!
