| Adopted 5.5 year old Jesse from his owner/breeder Hi my name is Kristina and I live in CT. I just adopted a 5.5 year old Yorkie on Sunday and my husband and I are still trying to figure out all his needs. We bought the same food his previous owner used but he seems to anybody his nose at it. I ha e emailed her to find out if she adds anything else to their food normally. Tonight he was barking g at us bit we couldn't figure out why and we took him outside multiple times and he still hasn't pooped. We think he might have separation anxiety. We also have a roommate that comes home after midnight long after we have gone to sleep. He fends to watch TV in the living room where the crate is. Would it help the dog if I put a blanket over the crate at night? Or would the TV still wake him up? I feel bad that he is having to change homes after spending all his tine since birth with one family surrounded by other dogs so I want to make him comfortable. I hope he comes to love me, my husband and our home. I have attached a picture of him after he decided to steal my blanket for his own bed. I will post more tomorrow when I can make them smaller as I am posting this from my Verizon Motorola Droid X 2 and I am not sure how to shrink the photos. I looks forward to reading through the forums and learning more about my little guy and all of you!! ~Kristina |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. Maybe you should put the crate in your room where he can see you and he knows your there if he wakes up.

| I would try to get as much info from the previous owner about his routine as possible. Like how is he used to going potty? On puppy pads, or did they take him out for a walk? I know it is very confusing to a dog to be taken out of it's usual routine, especially the potty routine. He might not be used to grass or whatever surface you are using. One of my dogs was used to always going for a walk at least twice a day and when we moved to a house with a back yard I tried to get him to just go out back and pee. It did not go over well at all. He kept waiting for me to take him for his walk. Of course he is going to be disturbed by someone watching TV in his bedroom. I would move him into your room or some quiet place where no one is going to wake him up. Hope things go well for you and his adjustment time. Keep us posted on how he is doing. |

| It takes a couple of weeks for a new dog to get used to his surroundings. I agree with the above post. Put his crate in your room. Have you taken him to the vet for check-ups? Has he poop at all since being there? If his being fed dry food I'm not surprise he only eats only when his starving/hungry. Imagine eating the same old boring stuff everyday. If you want to keep him on kibbles add a little yogurt or parmesan cheese to it. You can also add some wet food and mix it in. Quality of dry food is very important too. Check out the section for dog food here. Good luck and hopefully we get more pics of your little one.

| Ah, he is plum pretty. He looks alot like my Jack. Bless his little heart. I am sure he is scared and confused. Give it time he will get use to you and hubby and the late nighter. I would put his crate in the bedroom where he can always see you at night. Also I would call breader and get all the info on him. Ask everything no matter how dumb you may think it is. Welcome and good luck, keep us posted. |

| Well today I discovered a few things but only after the poor little guy threw up in my livingroom. Once I cleaned it up I took him outside for a walk and it seemed he was struggling to poop but finally did poop! I was happy and praised him. When we got back inside I noticed he went to his water/food bowl but wouldn't drink the water. We had bought one of the dishes that uses a bottle to refill on its own so I took the bottle of figuring it might scare him. He sniffed at the water more but still wouldn't drink so I said fine...lets try this...and I took a small glass bowl from the cabinet and filled it with water and put it on the floor....he drank like the water was going out of style!!!! The poor guy hadn't been drinking like I thought he was so he was probably a bit dehydrated. I then moved his kibble to a similar bowl and later on he ate that. Since there hadn't been much in the bowl my husband put some more in and then after we had dinner we put some chicken in with the kibble and a little water and mixed it around d. If seemed like he was just going for the chicken but surprisingly he ate it all! I just took him for a walk and all he did was pee but I will try taking him out once more before bed. The breeder used puppy pads when they were in the kennel area and if they were in the main house she would just let them out in the back yard because its fenced in. I plan to get a fence of some sort so I can just let him out but I am on FMLA so it might have to wait a bit which is why I have tried just taking him in the yard with a leash. Thank you for the tips about putting his crate in our room, I had thought putting it in the livingroom where we spend most of our time would be best but if the roommate is going to wake him up that might have to change. Thank you so very much for all of your input I really appreciate it. It seems it is faking g me longer to adjust to the little guy than he is taking to get used to us. I have depression and anxiety and we figured getting a dot would help however it hasn't been going well for me the past couple of days. The good part is that if for some reason my anxiety is too much the breeder will always always take him back. I got switched to some new anxiety meds so hopefully that wont have to happen. He loves to curl up next to my legs and sleep or steal my blanket for his naps. Oh! And the food I use is the same that the breeder uses and I was told to only put chicken, yogurt, cheese, etc in the kibble once a day not both times. I am amazed at how much he sleeps. At first I thought it was because he was bored but my mom who owns his half sister said that they do sleep a lot because they are little. I have attached another picture for you. Again thank you all for the wonderful advice!! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35...-05-52_752.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35...-59-57_843.jpg |

| He is just gorgeous. I hope things work out well for you. Dogs can be great mood lifters as they love us unconditionally. Once he has gone through the adjustment period he will be so much happier. |

| He is a cutie! Congratulations. I think you both need a little more adjusting time and you will love each other unconditionally. Just take it very slowly and don't expect miracles just yet. Good job problem solving the food and water issue These guys are smart and know what they want
