| Distance walked or jogged? Wondering what the longest distance walked or jogged with your yorkie is? Thinking about doing a dog friendly 5k.... we have walked that distance together, but never jogged that distance together, not quite sure what her potentials capabilites are......

| For a jog, I'd build her up for it. If she's never jogged before, you can't expect her to go for that long. It'd be like if a human had never run more than 5 minutes at a time and then suddenly be expected to run 5k. But a Yorkie who is conditioned to it and in shape would be perfectly fine doing that. Jackson can easily walk a 5k -- no problem. Never tried running it. He'd probably be okay... but I would do shorter intervals first to practice. He runs freely all the time on his own term in a fenced in backyard. He will go and go and go at full speed but it's not me forcing him to do it... "forced" running/walking is different and he gets tired quicker. Also weather dependent... he won't walk as long in the hotter weather, gets tired much quicker. Longest total walking we've done... probably 6 miles. But I think he could easily do more with some little breaks in between. His little Yorkie friend, Nala, is 6lbs and half his size and often keeps up more than he does.... lol

| Chewie and I are currently doing the couch-to-5k training program together--it's a 9-week (I think?) program that culminates in a 5k run. He always acts less than enthusiastic about getting up in the morning! On the off-days, we walk two miles. He can walk that easily, although we worked up to that as well.

| I walk aprox. 2 miles most days. The 3 bigger Yorkies do fine. ( Rubin 6 lbs 8 years old, Gracie right at 5 pounds 2 years old, Ginny Joy 5 1/2 pounds 6 months old) Abba has to be carried the last 1/2 mile or so. But he is small and has to run the whole time to keep up with us. He 7 months old and almost 4 pounds.

| Teddy can walk 5 miles no problem. However, he gets distracted easily and so jogging at a steady pace is something I would have to train him to do. I walk Teddy 3 miles a day everyday, 5 miles being the max he's walked in one day...although I'm sure he could have walked more lol I forgot to add that Teddy weighs 12lbs

| Lucy walks 2.5 miles MAX. And I usually have to carry her part of that way - she is panting and wanting to turn around and head for home. Ringo wants to keep moving forward. But no matter how far away we are - the MINUTE we turn around to head for home (or the car); she wants down and is leading the pack pulling with all her might. Girl wants to go HOME. No way could she jog a 5K. She's 5 lbs but long hikes are just not her thing.

| Kiko has walked over 4 miles with me on multiple occassions without any trouble. If it is hot, she can't go nearly as far. I've never tried jogging with her, although I suspect she would like it. |

| Harley and I would usually walk .8k every day (just used a running map to map it), but we are training for agility and he can go for hours, I walk him with me all over town... I'm the one struggling to build up endurance, but I'm also working towards the 5k run with me and Harley together. I haven't started taking him with me, but what I'm doing is adding a block to my daily run when I feel I've mastered each level, then once I get good I'm going to start taking him with me for half of my daily run. he's only 3.5lb, but is nicknamed by friends "the energizer bunny on steroids". So I guess as long as you build up slowly, and make sure their diet includes what they need for that much exercise you should be good.

| We have gone on a day hike that consisted of a lunch break and it totaled like 14 miles to the top of mountain for lunch. Longest "normal" walk is through Redwood Park loop here so 4 miles. Honestly most of our walks are short trips around the subdivision several times a day for like 6 or 8 blocks and home x3 a day. If I were you I'd go for it! BUT I'd bring a "doggy back pack" and a water bottle so you can stop water and put baby in back pack. Remember my Yorkies are 9 and 17 pounds though...both appear thin so they are big boys.

| Everyone here swears by Kwiggy that I can think of off hand. Also try the sale section for made by members goods. It was totally by force the boy suggested a day hike. I was thinking a couple miles tops.

| When my son is home on leaves he runs about 14k each day -- he takes Cali with him - she is barely 4 pounds - he says she does really well for about 4-5k (if it is not hot) and then he puts her in the back pack for the rest. She has been doing this with him for 2 years however. If the road is rough or has gravel however he has to carry her because her little feet can't handle that. IMHO they are both crazy, but she is always so excited when she sees my son coming in his running shoes!
