For a jog, I'd build her up for it. If she's never jogged before, you can't expect her to go for that long. It'd be like if a human had never run more than 5 minutes at a time and then suddenly be expected to run 5k. But a Yorkie who is conditioned to it and in shape would be perfectly fine doing that.
Jackson can easily walk a 5k -- no problem. Never tried running it. He'd probably be okay... but I would do shorter intervals first to practice. He runs freely all the time on his own term in a fenced in backyard. He will go and go and go at full speed but it's not me forcing him to do it... "forced" running/walking is different and he gets tired quicker. Also weather dependent... he won't walk as long in the hotter weather, gets tired much quicker.
Longest total walking we've done... probably 6 miles. But I think he could easily do more with some little breaks in between. His little Yorkie friend, Nala, is 6lbs and half his size and often keeps up more than he does.... lol |
