| ![]() Posted this link to them. As I said until they stop cruelly confining, improperly feeding, forcing nocturnal animals (chinchillas) in totally clear Plexiglas and see through plastic igloos in daylight/florescent lighting I boycott ALL Petcos already...

| ![]() Thank you for your post. I believe it was Pet Depot in Vestal that evacuated their animals not "PetSmart" which is a company also owned by PetCo. Thank you - Evie |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() I've herd/read... Nobody told us the store was going to flood. (Employees) We would have helped, but they said everything was ok. (Fire Dept) Disaster Plan not used or nonresistant. (CEO) No followup on rising water. (other First Responders) No action or followup by Store Manager. (Employees) No objection by Subordinates. (Associates) Prevention of intervention. (Local Police) then... We're going to give $25K to Local Shelters. (CEO) We're not going to fire anyone, and pay them. (CEO) *Have Psychological Counseling available for Employees. (CEO) Now... Of all the passing the buck, and subsequent shallow attempts to compensate for errors, it's possible that one *thing may be of value, at least to some. If we can assume, that the Employees of that Store, had any real interest in or love for animals, beyond just having a job, I can barely imagine the remorse they may be experiencing now. I really feel sorry for them.

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() I will never shop at PetCo again. I don't really care if it's the specific store, or the company. As people have said, national should have an explicit humane policy in place for just these types of situations. I was in NYC and pretty much everything closed down in preparation. Every vendor took losses.

| ![]() hmmm does Petco insure their product in their event of natural disaster:floods maybe? Wow, cost os saving, upkeep & hopeful sale or guaranteed insurance check...just askin'...anyone else curious? I'm thinking it seems an inadvertent insurance scam to NOT have an evacuation of living animals policy...or good CEO 'business' thinking

| ![]() (hmmm does Petco insure their product in their event of natural disaster ![]() ![]() My son sent me a statement that a lawyer put up that if the folks would get together he would offer his services free of charge to go after everyone involved for animal cruelty and neglect ect. I live in tornado ally (Alabama) and this year was hit by one in April, but I refuse to go to a storm shelter because my two furbabies are not allowed in these shelters even if they both fit in a single crate, so I WILL NOT leave them behind. ![]() And if you have pets in your care you need to be responsible for them and if you are making a profit from them you are doubly responsible to prevent any harm to them. This are living breathing creatures that love and have emotions such as fear and joy. If those animals had even been let loose they would have had enough sense to seek higher ground themselves. I am not saying they should have been let loose but that they knew they were drowning. If there was time to move precious paper work to safety and to shut down early than there was time to remove all animals. Rent a Uhaul truck load them and get to higher ground. Yeah that store was dry for 6 to 8 hours before any water hit and the whole area knew it was coming. |

| ![]() Isn't that the most horrific part? Had the animals not been trapped in cages, left to slowly drown, they'd have saved themselves...

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() When hurricane Irene went through here, officials in NY emphasized that people could bring their animals to shelters, though they asked that they be muzzled, etc. Hopefully this is the start of a trend. I sent an email to PetCo stating I would no longer buy their products. I got the following response back. (not sure why most of the spaces disappeared). ================= Thank you for notifying usof your concern. I apologize for the delay in response. Please know that we areaware of the situation in Johnson City and our entire company is deeplysaddened by it. We areactively working to understand all the details surrounding the situation andwe’re committed to learning how to ensure that this type of situation neveroccurs again. We are heartbroken that even a single pet was lost, but itis important to know that we do not carry or sell dogs or cats, so none were inthe store at the time of the flood. Weare animal lovers, too, and as a company, we make our best efforts to evacuateanimals from stores which we know are in harm’s way, and in fact a number ofstores were under evacuation in the region. We have rescued thousands ofanimals from harm’s way during floods, fires, hurricanes and otherdisasters. Please know that we care about our customers andwhat they think of us. By letting us know when we fall short of yourexpectations, we have the opportunity to address your concerns and to be betterprepared to meet your expectations in the future. Thank you again forcontacting PETCO.
