| What do you do with runny eyes? I groom my dogs frequently as needed. Brush daily & keep them looking nice & healthy. SHield is the 1st dog that i have had with running eyes. They are not extremely bad but how do you care for yours? Do all yorkies have this? How often do you clean yours? Is there any products that you have found to work better then others? Thanks so much ahead of time for help with this!! |

| Sometimes it's food. Jackson's had more runny eyes on certain foods. Some are just more prone to it. I would just suggest keeping the hair cut around the eyes, as that seems to help a ton. They do have products like Angel Eyes but I am not sure how recommended they are. I've heard of people using flea combs or warm wash cloths.

| ziggy had very runny eyes and that was one of his symptoms that he had food allergies. once that was figured out his eyes went back to normal. they do still tear a bit so i whipe his face everyday and try keep the hair out of his eyes. if your not planing on growing out his coat, you could cut the hair

| i thought about the food. his eyes are better now then when we 1st got him. they were really bad but he was a MESS. i really thought i was going to puke bathing him the first time. i feed the dogs Taste of the Wild & just yest tried a small bag of Trator supplies brand that is suppose to be the same. So the food should be good. i was just using a warm cloth. |

| Food and environmental allergies are often the cause. Nancy1999 has a great link about eye drainage and stains. Maybe she will post. If the eye discharge is ever yellow or green, or thick white, see the vet immediately. Otherwise, mention the eye watering to your vet at your pup's next appointment.

| Could be allergies, food or environmental. My guys have had watery eyes the last couple of weeks from all of the chickweed and other things in the air. It's worse when we go to the park where all of the ball fields have bermuda grass.

| Chloe's eyes run just a tiny bit. Once I got her hair cut so it didn't poke her in the eyes, it just about went away. She still has a small amount of clear tearing, but I wash her little face every morning. |

I'll try to wash his face in the mornings & see if it makes a difference. I'll try to remember!! He won't like it! He doesn't like me to fuss with him, he tries to wiggle away when I groom him! lol | |

| Sometimes besides being caused by certain types of food, it can be an air borne allergy. These little guys are so close to the ground, that taking them for walks can cause a lot of tearing simply from grasses, weeds, dust and the like. Ask your Vet. to recommend a saline solution. This way you can put a drop in each eye right after a walk or before bed.

To the OPer~I would suggest trying a limited ingredient food to see if this helps with the tears. I feed Natural Balance Lamb and Brown Rice to mine and they seem to do well. They offer several different varieties in LI line of foods. It's much more simple to try a few different foods to see if the problem clears itself.

| If you notice....Yorkie's have LONG eyelashes, I think this tells us that they do have somewhat fragile eyes. I have allergies myself so I keep a special filter in the heat pump as well as own a high tech air purifier. This might be an option as well. Be cautious about what you mop with. Also if you add carpet fresh or spray alot of smelly items, this can really hurt someone with allergies as well. This could also effect our pet's I'm sure. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie has Always had issues with runny eyes. At the beginning of June they started to get really bad. After working with my vet she put her on a LID RX dog food. I previously had her on NB LID formulas but I had little success as far as the tearing was concerned...but within days of her new food her eyes started to clear. Now..she is completely tear free! I do notice her eyes tear more when she is out in the grass. I have a eye wash I really like that I got from my vet and I use sterile saline solution in the corners for any crusties. She also drinks bottled water which has also helped For us the diet was what helped!

| Tibbe very occasionally will have runny eyes and I wash his face gently around the eye area daily with his dog shampoo and rinse, brush the hair away from eyes when wet, dry well with a towel, repeating daily until gone. His diet is steady so I am not sure what causes it but it is rare with him.
