YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() All I am going to say is if it was a choice between getting a pup that was closer and looks to not be purebred or driving a few more hours to get a purebred puppy that looks like it's supposed to and has a better chance of being healthy. Well that's a no brainer for me. I would rather have the purebred that looks like it's supposed to regardless of time spent driving. Heck I went to Indiana 3 years ago to get the puppy I wanted.

| ![]() I love the breed and respect what the good ones are doing to extend the integrity of Yorkies, but I did start my search at www.petfinder.com to check out humane societies and rescues. Some are purebreds, others not so much, but they all deserve love--perfect or not. I do what I do for the love of dogs. When I couldn't find one (being Yorkie are mixed Yorkie) at an area rescue, that's when I extended my search to breeders in the area (my area being the Upper Great Lakes Region). The breeder I found has Yorkies and Parti Yorkies. The one I'm picking up tomorrow has a parti mom and a standard dad. I will love her with all my heart, perfect or not. Originally I was going to buy a Maltese puppy from a friend when she was old enough. The puppies are just over a week old and very, very cute, but I didn't feel a connection like I did when Sydney, my 2-year-old female Yorkie, found me. So, I started my search over. When I saw the little girl's picture in WI, my heart skipped a beat. I just knew that my daughter was there even though I realize that this breeder isn't listed with the Yorkie Breeder Website (which I did check). Sometimes puppy love happens that way. We can't help how we feel, but it's how we react to that feeling that counts. For me, I knew that Maltese puppy would find its perfect parents. The little girl I'm picking up tomorrow is my match.

Even though one registers their dogs with AKC or is a member of any orginization.....do your homework......investigate.

| ![]() I went ahead and got the puppy. The vet said she's a happy, healthy little Yorkie. The breeder sent us home with a puppy kit: her vaccine list, puppy blanket from litter, food (Solid Gold), toy, treats (100% lamb lung), information on diet (raw and prepared), and a health guarantee. Suzy has a great disposition and is very calm. She's getting along great with her sister Sydney and cousin Ginger. I do appreciate the concerns and information. Because of the information I gathered at YorkieTalk, I knew what questions to ask the breeder and what to look out for. Thank you again.

| ![]() Thank you! The breeder also gave us something to add to their water to control tarter and also paste for puppies to avoid hypoglycemia, which I had meant to buy before picking her up but forgot. So far she hasn't needed it, though. Thank you again!

You don't really have to control tartar in a puppy; they will lose those teeth in a few months. I'd be careful of water additives; some have been taken off the market for being unsafe or ineffective. I do recommend getting them use to tooth brushing at an early age, even though they will lose those baby teeth.

| ![]() Thank you for letting me know, Nancy. We do brush their teeth. I likened the water additive to a mouth rinse and didn't think about it being harmful. Good information to know.

Oh okay, some brands suggest it has to be in all their drinking water and that can be worrisome.

| ![]() No, you are right, Nancy. It is to be kept in their water, but I didn't think of it as something bad until you mentioned it. I assumed it was harmless like a mouth rinse is what I meant. We aren't going to give it to them any more.

| ![]() It's called Pet Kiss. My 2-year-old Yorkie has diarrhea and I don't know if Pet Kiss caused it, but she didn't start having the trouble until she started drinking Pet Kiss. Regardless, they aren't drinking it any longer. Thank you, Nancy for the heads up.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Oh dear, I hope he gets over it quickly, sometimes the puppy can give the older dog an illness, and the puppy won't be showing any symtoms. I looked up Pet Kiss, I couldn't find much about just the advertiser's claims, so I don't know if it's okay or not. So many of these companies go out of business under one name, and just open up under another name.
