Check a Breeder I might be getting a new baby girl this weekend. I can't remember, though, the website to check up on breeders. She's not local. Does anyone know the name of the website and link? Her pups are CKC Registered. |
I don't know the answer but I hope everything turns out good. |
Which website? the breeders? CKC as in Canada or the other one? Have you been to the breeders house and met the pups, or is that what you are doing this weekend? |
I'll be meeting the puppy and her parents this weekend. She has AKC and CKC registered puppies. This one happens to be CKC she said. I remember seeing a long time ago on here a website you could go to for checking on breeders. Read reviews and what not. This was back in 2009. I am very excited. I feel bad because a friend offered to sell me one of his Maltese puppies, but I really wanted a Yorkie. I told him I would take her because I know the Maltese puppy's parents and they're great. Well, now a Yorkie puppy became available by a breeder that is from outside the area, and from what I can tell, she's not a puppy mill, but I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting myself in to. Yorkies are hard to come by where I live. Where my first one came from inside the area, I won't buy from her again. I love my Yorkie, but she had health problems that the breeder didn't admit to until my vet got involved. She had a one-year health guarantee on her puppies and even came recommended by the local kennel club. Sometimes you just never know. |
Here's an article about registries. Here's what they say about the CKC. Quote:
When the AKC started cracking down on breeders, many puppy mills left, and the turned to alternative registries. These registries do not do routine unexpected inspections like the AKC. Another reason a breeder might use the CKC is because she doesn't have breeding rights for her dogs, and can't register them with the AKC. In my opinion this is the same as stealing and you shouldn't condone it. Many people say, "Oh I'm not going to breed so I don't need a registered dog", but pet owners should be just as careful when buying a dog, its not about the dog, it's about the breeder. Don't reward backyard breeders and puppymills with your business. It's so costly to repair a sick dog, you are much better off going to a good breeder who REALLY stands behind her dog. The local kennel club recommending her wouldn't impress me, you don't know whose running the local kennel club. |
I've never heard of a website that reviews breeders, and I've researched Yorkie/Biewer breeders quite a bit. Like Deuce said, CKC as in Continental or Canada? If it's Continental, run away from that breeder. The Canada one is okay though. Probably the best way to get reviews on that breeder is to try to search for them on yorkietalk, and see if there had been any thread about them. Or you can post the website, and we can try to tell if the breeder has any red flags or not. |
I just noticed that you live in Michigan; it's very possible that CKC is the Canadian Kennel Club and they are Canada’s AKC equivalent. In that case ignore my previous post. I agree with backwardsrain, ask yorkietalkers if they've ever heard of the person. |
Kirby you have been here for 2 years, and not obviously a new member. Do a google search both on her kennel name, and her personal name, and see what you come up with. CKC ie the US CKC is not reputable registry as a long termish member could know by now. Michigan is very close to Canada in particular Ontario and so if you meant the Canadian Kennel Club, go to the Canadian Yorkshire Terrier Club to see if this is a recognized breeder by them. I wish you luck in your search |
Thank you, everyone. On her website, she says she has AKC and CKC dogs. I had not heard of CKC before, but I will find out which she is affiliated with. I did Google searches on her and her business, but couldn't find reviews, only her website and listings leading to her website. I did send an email to the WI Kennel Club that she is affiliated with. I guess I could start there. Thank you again! |
YTCA Breeder Referrel Does anyone know why the breeder I'm trying to research wouldn't be on the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The ClubYTCA Breeder Referral Page? Where my last Yorkie from also isn't on the list. Both breeders say they are "Proud to Register with the American Kennel Club. Hmmmm..... Okay, I love dogs too much not to do this, but the breeder is TopKnot Golden Girl Yorkshire Terriers in Wisconsin. She also runs a dog grooming business under the same name. |
Found her! I did find her listed under AKC's classified section, so that makes me feel better. The puppy I'm buying, though, is CKC registered. The momma dog is parti Yorkie if that makes a difference as to possibly why the puppy isn't AKC registered? |
If this is CKC (Continental Kennel Club) I would not purchase from her. |

I think partis are able to be registered with the AKC. I do not know Breny (a member of this site) personally, but I have heard ppl on this site say they are very happy w her pups and she is out of Michigan. |
