Inactive Account | Yorkshire Terrier Club of America breeders are good breed? I think I may have found a breeder near me (or as close to me as I can get). I am curious if these are top notch breeders or not. I want my babies to be healthy and of good quality. Please respond. |

| From my experience, the best I know for NY only is Joanne Home Page. She is my mentor. Though I never bought from her, she is very patient, sweet, very caring and honest. Also, helpful. Wish you luck.

| The only way to vouch for a breeder is to research them, talk to them, visit them and be as informed as possible. Just because they belong to a club is no assurance they are a good breeder. If you are looking for a show dog, go to dog shows, ask questions, listen to what people say about different breeders. Are you thinking about breeding dogs ? If you are, really do your homework, and ask why am I doing this ? Be honest with yourself too. You will probably not make a profit for years and maybe never. Not to long ago, I went to visit breeders listed with AKC and YTCA, when I was looking for a male puppy. Some were great, some good and some not so good. Not all good breeders have professional kennels, some just have their own beautiful healthy Yorkies that live in their home. You will hear a lot of bad things on here, about Back Yard Breeders who breed for just for profit. So just learn as much as you can and keep looking. Go visit, check references, and be realistic about what you want, can afford, and how much time you have to share with a dog. |

| I don't think someone can make a general statement like that. YTCA members are supposed to be better. They have a code of ethics. I suggest you read it and see if you agree with what the YTCA stands for. Each member of the YTCA is suppose to live up to that code. That doesn't excuse a buyer from screening and researching the breeder. There might be a bad apple in the bunch. Good luck on your search!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Obviously, there are some good breeders who aren’t in the club, after all, people aren’t born in into the club they join it, so they must be a good breeder before someone can recommend them. There will always be people joining clubs for the wrong reason; the right reason would be because you want to be with other likeminded people who believe in preserving and protecting the breed. This isn’t a club that helps you sell puppies, although many breeders don’t understand that. I’m so glad a YorkieTalk member recommended the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America to me. I really wasn’t that familiar with purebreds, and I was looking for a healthy dog as that was of prime importance to me. After caring for my elderly parents I needed something that would give back to me, and I just didn’t have it in me to nurse a dog at that time. I found an excellent breeder through the YTCA and we got to know each other over time, she wanted to be sure I was ready for the commitment, and she told me that even good breeders have dogs that are sick, there’s no real guarantee for that, I mean they might return your money, but how about your heart? I know that she would stick by me no matter what and I was sure she would offer the emotional support I would need. This enabled me to take the plunge. At almost 5 Joey’s the picture of health and knock on wood he continues that way. He’s absolutely adorable too! So I always recommend someone talking to YTCA breeders, you will learn so much and you will eventually know what you want in a breeder.

| The YTCA is no different then any other club...you will meet wonderful people you can have a lifetime bond with..ethical, caring and reputable..and then you have the others...you just have to sort through them, that's is life. As I posted...Carole Del Penna a club member has pets for sale in FLorida..check her out. Last edited by YorkieRose; 07-27-2011 at 08:49 AM. |
