Both DH and I talk to "the boys" just like they were going to answer us back. We have to spell certain words (like bath, walkies, etc.) or they would never cooperate, lol. The main operating word we use whenever we want them to come back inside (that works every time) is "TATER", their fav treat.

There was a news segment last night about how smart dogs are. They say they are smarter than a toddler (big achievement?? LOL). They say an average dog can learn about 165 words/commands, smarter breeds such as Border Collies, Poodles and German Shepards, can learn up to 250 words. They also can read body and sign language. Dogs can understand basic math and can count to 4 or 5. It was a short news segment, but pretty interesting!

So talk away, because your baby probably DOES understand some of what you are saying!

not only do i talk to my dogs...but i do it on video...and post the videos on the internet for everyone to see what a crazy dog lady i am!!! LOL!

Roxy is my confidant, my best friend, and my child. She is also VERY good at keeping secrets. So it's only natural that I tell her EVERYTHING. I ask her opinion on things, I ask her why she does certain things, I even read to her sometimes.. So are you crazy... yea probably a little, but so are we. lol

Hilarious! We do this too! The whole family knows doggie code. When making a grocery list I will ask someone to check how many C's we have. If I actually said the word carrot they would freak out!!!

When making decisions for work, I also talk through the options with them providing arguments for both sides and then we make a decision together. They are quite wise

LOL, I do the same thing...I love shoes & clothes, when I get home from shopping I will model for them and ask "whatcha think" is mommy looking good or what, and all 3 will wag their tails and Bella will give a few little barks...its to cute....but what I really think she is saying is...yeah yeah mommy its cute, now wheres ours.

all my girls Expect me to talk away to them- especially when we are on our own or out on a walk... if i ignore them heaven forbid; i get looks of death- mostly from kitty though!
and as for apologizing, poppet walked into the door and then backed into my foot this morning and of course she yelped, ran to the bed and then collapsed in distress at the whole ordeal! she didnt come back to see me again until i said sorry and told her to go get a bonio.
they can all spell too- appart from kandi and toby (my grans two) cant because they havnt had the practice when they were little!

so maybe they are just spoilled little brats? or is that just mine! lol

Eleanor probably thinks I am incapable of being quiet. I even replaced listening to the radio with a million songs I sing myself. thats the best way I get her attention.

see, when i sing to myself, Poppet and Kuki both just either ignore me or listen (depending how out of tune i am!) but yet again, kitty will just roll her eyes at me and sigh in disgust! now that i think of it, Kit is the grumpiest, huffiest most patronising creature i have ever met; i often tell her that shes soo lucky i love her so much- i dont think many others would! shes too smart for her own good- i think she is too personified... i'm just waiting for her to claim my laptop and make her own account here to complain about me not being trained well enough!
