| ![]() This is for all Michigan and surrounding states Yorkie owners, just a little reminder that it's going to be really hot today and mostly all this week. I've been trying to take Gizmo on walkies later in the day when it isn't so hot but it still gets pretty steamy. So even with the sun going down, we watch out for black pavement and always have water on us. Also, be sure to keep your eyes out for any dogs locked in cars (that goes for all states). And know your state's laws with regards to how to handle the situation. In other words, don't be like me and get a rock and smash out their window to get the dog out unless advised to by the police ![]() Have a wonderful Sunday!

![]() ![]() ![]() Yep, here in Texas where I am at we are going on day 16 straight of 100 and over and this does not include the heat index which is way higher. We are so tired of this crap. I only allow the girl's in the yard 10 minutes at time and always take their water bowl out when we go out.

| ![]() Also keep in mind if you are hot your animals are alot hotter because they cant sweat. Our central air went out but at least we have window air in the bedroom so we put ours up there during the hottest of the day. Another thing you can do is put them in the tub with cool water. We have a stream in our backyard and Jewels will just go lay in it when she gets hot it is cute

| ![]() Been 104 here in Florida...and with the humidity, feels like 110 or more...A/C is running non stop during the day. I have a privacy fenced in back yard and the kids go out long enough to potty and its right back in, they won't play out there at all, so DH and I have been playing alot with them inside to wear them out and so they get some exercise...I put ice cubes in there water to help keep them cool...and Bella, silly girl, rolls over belly up and lets me rub a ice cube on her tummy, she loves it...she is like ahhhhh feels good, don't stop mommy LOL.

| ![]() We had a story on our news last week that 2 dogs had died in seperate incidents because of the heat, one was left in a car for 15 minutes, and the 2nd died in the yard even though he had plenty of water. I have been keeping mine inside most of the time.

| ![]() My pups are 16 and 18 weeks. I would like to start taking them for a walk, but the summer here in Arizona makes it very hard with babies. We get up at 4:30 am and that is about the only time it is not too hot for them. However, right now Abby and Max would prefer to just play on me all morning and retreat when they see the harnesses. (So far I have gotten Max to wear his harness for about 5 minutes without freaking out, Abby has at least stopped yelping when I put it on her, which lasts for all of 10-15 seconds.) They get to go outside on the screened in patio for about 5 minutes after I get home from work - but it is still over 100's most days. They are in the house with the A/C running all day. I have put ice cubes in their water dish to keep in nice and cool - Abby likes to go ice cube bobbing. She roots around in the dish until she can grab a piece of ice and then takes it and hides it behind the couch. |

| ![]() I saw the heat warning in effect all week yesterday. Not looking forward to this one bit... I was just looking at these freezy pups and thinking I may have to get some for this week. Just as another something to keep them cool. Gwenni's already shaved down, but I'm thinking Finni maybe getting a cut as well. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ml#post3599788

| ![]() We're broiling here in Texas and having lived here all my life, dogs in cars anytime it is even warm are always something we have to watch out for and do. It's very cold in the house and at lunch when I let Tibbe out to potty and stepped into the den to see a golf shot at The Open and stepped back outside, I found Tibbe lying on his tummy right in the hottest patch in the back yard trying his best to warm up! He was soaking up all the warmth he could during his outing so I took a cue from him and nudged the A-C a bit warmer. Poor little guy was cold and sunning himself warm! I guess there is such a thing as trying too hard to stay cool for some of us! When it is this hot, I just never take Tibbe with me anywhere in the car just in case there is a breakdown or accident and through something happenstance, he could die from heatstroke. Tibbe stays home when it is this hot outside just as a precaution. I would love him with me but it is just not worth the risk.

| ![]() I am so glad to see this post. I know that we, here on YT know all of this, but it doesn't hurt to remind everyone, and for the 'pass on'. I hear stories every year of animals and children being killed in cars while someone goes into a store for 'just a minute'. Anyone with any common sence knows, by the time you check out many more minutes have passed! I have auto start on my vehicle, and many people think they are safe with that. It's only 15 mn. and what if something happens meantime and the car stops running in 5? Dead animals, and children. OMG!! Also, I think that the only place dogs sweat is through their paws.. I heard that somewhere many years ago. I take time to put a wet cold washcloth on my little ones paws and this helps keep them cooler. I am here in ND and right now at nearly 2pm the heat index is 105* I just think of those poor animals that people keep outside in pens all the time. Poor mistreated animals that can't come in because of all those rediculous reasons... they're too dirty, too big, too roudy, etc!!! Those things make me CRAZY!!!!! OK I'm through ranting, opening my big mouth yet again! ![]() |

| ![]() It is 102 in the shade of my back porche. I spent the morning playing with a jigsaw and came in when it was 100. Mina stood at the backdoor and fussed at me to let her out, then she stared at me until I let her back in. She decided she would watch mommy from the window. My yard looks like a fresh mowed HAY field, even with water being put on it. Only the crepemertils are happy. |

| ![]() I heard on the news with our report of heat and animals to alway keep a old T-shirt with you and bottled water if you are walking your dog and soak the shirt and put on them to cool off, and to use the heel of your hand to test the pavement or side walk to see if it it too hot for you, then it is to hot for dogs to walk on. I also read about the T-Shirt on YT somewhere, It has been 105 heat index here in Georgia, but the last few days we have been Blessed with temps in the 80's. We have a pool and that isn't even fun.

| ![]() Nope, the pool feels like a warm bath. Just trying to keep the flora from growing in it. So done with the TX summer. |

| ![]() You know what's sad? My Mom and I went to the mall today, and each time we'd either to go another store or move the car I was out checking into people's windows to make sure there were no furry little faces in them. Gizmo was all geeked to go out to go potty after I got home and let him out of the crate, but then we he took one step outside and basically looked up at me saying, "Really Momma?" I've been giving Giz ice cubes to play with and it's kinds been killing two birds with one stone, he's having fun and buring energy chasign the cube, and also getting cooled of by licking it..
