I recently got the comment "when are you going to buy the rest of the dog." Got that remark from a person in Mississippi. People can be rude and insensitive in any state and any city. Too bad it isn't against the law to be stupid.[/QUOTE]

We have a patch around here somewhere that says "Stupid should hurt" if it did, people would not return to it so quickly.

Ive been known to throw smoochies at people that are being really rude to me and walk off, because the ONLY other thing I can think of is popping them in the mouth and well that wouldnt help Im sure. In my head I am usually thinking "God loves you but you are making it hard for me to today".

oh-- I was saying that about mid-west people tongue in cheek!! The same with miami people. Most people are nice, I would say 100s of people past us walking and just smiled or stopped to say they had yorkies or other small dogs. Sad to say, I remember the 4 or 5 rude people most. That is my error!!

As to the come backs.. you guys are great!! I wish I could have thought of some. Now... being raised in the south... we would add "bless your heart" to any insult so you "appear" to be nice

For example... the lady who said "dogs like that should not be out" you could reply "oh bless your heart, dogs like you shouldn't be out either"

You totally should do that. That's so funny!

My Father, now deceased, was carrying my previous little Yorkie because there was gravel on the road and he was afraid it would hurt her little feet. One of the other campers said to him, "Don't you think it is time to tell that thing she is a DOG". My Father was British, and without missing a beat he came back with,"Tell her she is a dog? - we haven't told her she is adopted, yet."

Good one Daddy!!!!

I am proud to be a Yorkie owner who has converted a big dog owner. Since my co-worker (who has only had labs in her life) has met my furbabies she tells people she is a convert. Although I know she will never get a Yorkie (she likes hiking with her dog), she thinks mine are great. I don't think she ever knew how much personality can be packed into such a little dog. She is looking for a Puggle for a buddy for her Lab. Her lab is great and has no idea she is bigger than my babies.

Yes, I have the co-workers at work who say they could punt my babies across the wash, their cat could eat my dog, or some other comments. But when they meet my little ones, well...lets just stay the toughest most macho man I work with did not look so tough when he was on the floor giggling as he was getting attacked with puppy love and kisses.

I think there is some stereo typical thoughts regarding these little guys. I still have a lot of people who are shocked to learn Yorkies are not all yappy dogs. Poppy used to run up to people, go flat on her belly and wag her tail until they would give her a scratch - not one bark, yelp or whimper. They are not all delicate and dainty. It is like when people say all Pitbulls are mean and will bite you. I know that is not true - I have met many doggie owners with friendly Pitbulls.

People say things when they are will others because they think they are being funny. Others are just insensitive uninformed bullies.

Your Remy is darling and it is a shame everyone does not get it.

Just stumbled onto this thread...
It is annoying. If I had a nickel for every "you're one of those people who cart their dog around in a purse", "my dog takes $hits bigger then your dog", or my favorite "when you stand next to your dog it looks like you're walking a mouse"...

Usually I just bite my tongue, sadly age has added a filter between my brain and mouth. However, last time someone made a comment to my husband who was carrying Gizmo said, "You're holding a rat with long hair."

I looked up and replied, "And yet he's so much cuter then you..."

It's a good thing Gizzy doesn't undertand any of the comments, or he wouldn't love people so much!

people can be so mean. My own family and neighbors have called my yorkie a "rat" on many occasions. I laugh it off but really I wonder why they feel they have to put these little ones down. Is it a bullying thing? I don't get it. I'm glad I read this though, now I got some good comebacks

They were jealous that you have a very adorable doggie. Don't worry about them.

My Uncle likes to tease about how small Macy is and calls her a rat, but I know he's just kidding.

Its kind of like highschool. Kids will say hateful things to someone else that isnt exactly the same, thinking that it makes them bigger somehow. When in truth it makes them VERY small minded (pea brained). So look on those that are cruel with their comments and see them with a tiny pea in their head for a brain. It will make you laugh and they wont even know why.
I feel sorry for those that think it necessary to try to steal or dumb down someone elses joy, just because it isn't their joy.
